Best Time to Visit Mendoza: Harvest Season, Vendimia Festival & Sunny Winters
Month-by-month weather guide to Mendoza using official 1991-2020 SMN climate normals: compare the February-April grape harvest and Vendimia festival, spring blooms, and crisp winters.
Protected from Pacific rainstorms by the towering wall of the Principal Cordillera, Mendoza enjoys more than 300 sunny days a year in a dry continental foothills climate (Köppen BWk). According to official 1991 to 2020 Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) normals, annual rainfall totals just 238 millimetres across the entire year, meaning vineyard visits and mountain excursions rarely face a washout in any season.

February to April: Grape Harvest (Vendimia) & Golden Autumn Foliage (Peak Season)
Late summer and autumn from late February through April are the most atmospheric months in Argentina's wine capital:
- The Grape Harvest & Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia (Late February & First Weekend of March): With daytime highs averaging 30.2°C in February and 27.1°C in March (and cool nights of 14.6°C to 17.1°C that preserve natural acidity in the grapes), bodegas across Maipú, Luján de Cuyo, and the Uco Valley buzz with hand-harvesting. Since 1936, the first week of March has culminated in the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia: the Friday-night Vía Blanca de las Reinas, Saturday morning's three-hour Carrusel parade through downtown streets, and the monumental Saturday-night Acto Central spectacle staged by over 1,000 dancers and musicians at the open-air Teatro Griego Frank Romero Day in Parque General San Martín.
- April's Crimson & Gold Vineyard Canopy (Highs 22.4°C, Lows 10.1°C, 3 Rain Days): By April, harvest crowds ease, midday temperatures settle at a comfortable 22.4°C, and every vineyard from Chacras de Coria to Gualtallary blazes in shades of amber, copper, and deep red against the first autumn snows on the Andes.

September to November (Spring) & June to August (Crisp Sunny Winter)
- Spring Budbreak & Mountain Trails (September to November, Highs 21.1°C to 28.8°C): Spring brings bright green budbreak across the vines, ideal cycling weather in Maipú and Chacras de Coria, and the mid-November opening of the longer trekking trails in Parque Provincial Aconcagua.
- Crisp Winters & Snow-Covered Andes (June to August, Highs 14.8°C to 17.8°C, 2 Rain Days/Month): Although winter nights drop to 2.1°C to 4.2°C, afternoons are dry and sunny, the Cordón del Plata and Aconcagua wear their deepest coat of snow, and steaming outdoor pools at Termas de Cacheuta are at their most inviting.
Understanding the Dry Viento Zonda
Between May and October, a warm, gusty foehn wind called the Zonda occasionally rushes down the eastern slopes of the Andes, raising temperatures rapidly for a few hours before a crisp cold front clears the sky.
