A Concert at Kia Center, Orlando

One evening show; downtown Orlando is easy to see in half a day around it · Orlando, Florida

Orlando's arena is downtown, far from the theme parks, so a concert here is a chance to see the side of the city most visitors skip.

Overview

Most visitors to Orlando never see downtown. They fly in, drive south-west to the theme parks and International Drive, and leave again. The Kia Center, the city's main arena, sits in that overlooked downtown, a few blocks from Church Street and its bars, and a concert here is a good excuse to spend an evening in the real city.

Journey play the Kia Center on Saturday 17 October 2026, on their Final Frontier farewell tour. Our Journey tour cities guide covers every date.

Downtown Orlando in an afternoon

The centrepiece is Lake Eola Park, a lake with a fountain in the middle and a path all the way round, with swans on the water and the downtown towers behind. It is a pleasant walk before a show and the setting of a farmers' market on Sunday mornings. Thornton Park, the streets just east of the lake, has brick lanes, small restaurants and cafés, and is our pick for dinner before a concert. Church Street, right by the arena, has old brick buildings, bars and a busy pre-show atmosphere on event nights.

Combining a show with the parks

Many people seeing a concert here are already in Orlando for the theme parks. That works, but plan the evening carefully. The drive from the Disney and Universal areas to downtown takes a while in traffic, and parking near the arena on a show night is limited and slow to empty. After a full day in a park, a concert is a long day; we would give the show a lighter day of its own, or stay downtown for one night.

For a quieter outing nearby, Winter Park, a short drive north, has a pretty main street, a lakes boat tour and the Morse Museum's collection of Tiffany glass.

Food and drink downtown

Downtown Orlando has more good restaurants than its reputation suggests. Thornton Park and the streets around Lake Eola have the best choice before a show; the Milk District and Mills 50, a short ride east and north, have independent bars and a strong cluster of Vietnamese restaurants. On a Saturday night, Orange Avenue and Church Street turn into the city's main nightlife strip, which is lively after the show but loud and crowded late at night.

October is a quieter month in the theme parks than the summer holidays, which makes it a good time for a combined trip.

Tickets & Getting There

Tickets

Buy through the arena's official ticket seller or the link on the band's official site. A Saturday show on a farewell tour will be popular, so be suspicious of last-minute bargains from private sellers.

Getting there

From Orlando International Airport, downtown is a drive or a rideshare away. SunRail, the commuter train, stops at Church Street station a short walk from the arena, but it runs mainly on weekdays, with weekend service only on special occasions, so do not count on it for a Saturday show without checking. Most visitors drive or take a rideshare. If you park, book a garage space in advance where possible.

Where to stay

  • Downtown or Thornton Park: walk to the arena and Lake Eola, and skip the drive home.
  • Theme park areas: fine if you are there for the parks anyway, but allow plenty of time for the drive in.

Accessibility and VIP

Accessible seating is sold through the official seller, and guest services can help with entrances. Buy VIP packages only through the band's official site, never from third parties promising extras.

Tips

  • Check the arena's bag policy before you set off; there may be nowhere to leave a large bag.
  • Arrive early on a Saturday. Church Street fills up, and entry queues are long close to the start.
  • Watch the weather. October is still hurricane season in Florida, and heavy afternoon showers are common. Keep an eye on the forecast and on the arena's announcements.
  • Plan the ride home in advance. Rideshare prices climb sharply when the arena empties; walking a few blocks away from the crowd before booking helps.
  • Dress light. Evenings are still warm, but the arena's air conditioning can be cold.
  • Walk round Lake Eola before the show; it is a short, flat loop and the fountain is lit in the evening.
  • Bring a poncho rather than an umbrella if rain is forecast; umbrellas are often not allowed inside arenas.
