A Concert at Amica Mutual Pavilion, Providence
Providence's arena is in a compact downtown an hour or so from Boston by train, with Federal Hill's Italian restaurants a walk away.
Overview
The Amica Mutual Pavilion, the arena that used to be called the Dunkin' Donuts Center, stands in downtown Providence, the small and walkable capital of Rhode Island. Everything a visitor needs is close: the river walk with its footbridges, the Providence Place shopping centre, the train station and the restaurants of Federal Hill.
Journey play here on Thursday 29 October 2026 on their Final Frontier farewell tour. Our Journey tour cities guide covers the other dates, including Boston on 10 November.
Providence in a day
Start on College Hill, east of the river, where Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design share leafy streets. Benefit Street has one of the best-preserved runs of colonial and early American houses in the country, and the RISD Museum has a collection far bigger than you would expect from a university museum. Come down the hill to the river walk, which in summer and autumn is the setting for WaterFire, an art event where bonfires are lit on braziers in the river after dark; it runs on selected nights only, so check its calendar.
For dinner, walk west to Federal Hill, the old Italian neighbourhood around Atwells Avenue, with its arch and pine cone sign. It is the obvious pre-show meal, and booking is wise on concert nights.
Day trip or overnight?
Providence is close enough to Boston for a day trip, but a late show and the last train make that a tight evening. Staying the night in Providence is more relaxing and leaves the next morning for College Hill. If you are based in Boston, our Boston getting there guide covers the stations.
The coast nearby
Rhode Island is the smallest state, and the coast is never far. Newport, about forty-five minutes' drive south, is famous for the Gilded Age mansions of its old summer residents, several of which are open to visitors, and for the Cliff Walk, a path along the rocks between the mansions and the sea. On a clear autumn day it makes a fine excursion the day before or after the show. Without a car, buses run from Providence, though a tour or a hire car is easier.
The arena is a short walk from most of downtown, and on a show night the streets between it and the river walk are full of people heading the same way.
Tickets & Getting There
Tickets
Buy from the arena's official ticket seller or through the band's official website. Do not buy from private sellers you cannot verify.
Getting there
MBTA commuter rail and Amtrak trains run between Boston and Providence station, which is a walk from downtown. Check the last departure back to Boston before relying on it after the encore. T. F. Green airport, south of the city, also has a train link to Providence. Drivers will find garages downtown, but leaving them after a show takes a while.
Where to stay
- Downtown: walk to the arena, the river walk and Federal Hill.
- College Hill: a few small inns and historic streets, a short walk down to the centre.
Accessibility and VIP
Accessible seating is sold through the official seller; ask guest services about entrances and drop-off points. Buy VIP packages only through the band's official site.
Parking
Downtown garages and the Providence Place car park are close to the arena. Arrive early, as streets around the venue get congested before a show, and expect a slow exit afterwards.
Tips
- Check the arena's bag policy before you leave the hotel.
- Book dinner on Federal Hill ahead of a show night; popular places fill early.
- Look up WaterFire dates. If one falls near your visit, it changes the whole feel of the city at night.
- Bring warm clothes. New England at the end of October can be cold after dark.
- Allow time at the station if you are taking a late train back to Boston.
- Walk College Hill in daylight; Benefit Street and the campus are at their best in the morning.
- Try the local food: coffee milk, clam cakes and pizza strips are all Rhode Island specialities.
- Arrive early for parking if you drive; the garages nearest the arena fill first.
- Combine it with Boston if you are following the tour; Journey play TD Garden on 10 November.
