Kraków 3-Day Itinerary

Three days: royal Kraków, Jewish Kraków and Auschwitz.

This plan gives each part of the city its own day and keeps Auschwitz separate. Book your Auschwitz entry card, Schindler's Factory and, if you add it, the Salt Mine before you arrive. If your entry card is for a different day, swap day three with day one or two; the city days work in either order.

Day 1: The Old Town and Wawel

8.30am: The Barbican and Florian Gate, then the Market Square while it's quiet. Follow our Old Town walk.

10am: St Mary's Basilica, then the Rynek Underground museum.

12.30pm: Lunch in a milk bar, then Collegium Maius.

2pm: Down Grodzka and Kanonicza streets to Wawel. The Cathedral and one castle exhibition.

5pm: The Dragon's Den (open in the warmer months) and a walk along the Vistula.

Evening: Back to the square to hear the trumpet call after dark.

Day 2: Kazimierz and Podgórze

9.30am: Kazimierz: Szeroka Street, the Old Synagogue and the Remuh cemetery.

12pm: Lunch in Kazimierz, then cross the Father Bernatek footbridge.

1.30pm: Ghetto Heroes Square, then Schindler's Factory with your timed ticket.

5pm: Back to Kazimierz for the courtyards off Józefa Street.

Evening: Dinner, a zapiekanka on Plac Nowy, and the bars around it.

Day 3: Auschwitz-Birkenau

Morning: Bus, train or tour to Oświęcim, timed to your entry card. Our Auschwitz guide covers the booking.

Midday to afternoon: The guided tour of Auschwitz I and Birkenau.

Evening: A quiet dinner back in Kraków. Most people don't want a big night after this visit.

With a fourth day, add the Wieliczka Salt Mine or go south to the Tatras, both in our day trips guide.
