Where to Stay in Las Vegas: A Neighbourhood Guide

Center Strip, north Strip or Downtown: which base fits your trip.

Short answer: for a first visit, stay on the center Strip, between Park MGM and the Venetian. You can walk to the fountains, the big casinos and many of the shows, and a rideshare reaches everything else in minutes. Stay Downtown to spend less, or on the north Strip for newer rooms and a calmer atmosphere.

Before you book, compare the full price. Resort fees are charged per night on top of the room rate, parking is usually extra, and weekends and convention dates cost far more than weeknights. The best time to visit guide explains the calendar.

Center Strip

Bellagio, Caesars Palace, the Cosmopolitan, Paris and the Venetian. The most walkable part of the city, along the route in our Strip guide, and the busiest, day and night. Rooms range from grand to tired, sometimes within the same resort, so check which tower you're booking.

South Strip

Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, New York-New York and MGM Grand. Closest to the airport and often cheaper, with big pool complexes. The trade-off is distance: the center Strip is a long walk or a ride away.

North Strip

Wynn, Encore, Resorts World, Fontainebleau and Sahara. Newer or recently renovated, quieter, with fewer crowds on the pavements. Beyond the Wynn, the walk south feels long, and there's less to walk to.

Downtown

Circa, the Golden Nugget and smaller casinos around Fremont Street. Lower room rates, lower table limits, a more local crowd and a lively evening scene. It's a ride away from the Strip's shows.

Non-casino hotels

A few hotels on and near the Strip have no casino floor, such as Vdara, the Waldorf Astoria and several off-Strip chains. They're quieter and smoke-free, which suits families and anyone who doesn't gamble, while the action stays next door.

Which tower, which floor

Ask for a room away from the elevators and, if you want sleep, away from the pool on club days. On a first trip, ask for a Strip view; the lights at night are what you came for.

Concerts at the MGM Grand Garden Arena

The MGM Grand Garden Arena is inside the MGM Grand on the south Strip, with a monorail station in the resort, so a south Strip hotel keeps the walk back short. Journey play here on 27 November 2026, the day after Thanksgiving, on their Final Frontier farewell tour; rooms on that weekend go early. See our tour cities guide for every stop.
