Getting Around Rhodes: East vs West Bus Stations (Rimini Square), Beach Boats and Cars
How to use the twin Rimini Square bus stations in Rhodes Town, hop onto east-coast beach boats and rent a car.
Getting around Rhodes is remarkably straightforward because both of the island's main bus terminals sit side by side on the exact same square in central Rhodes Town, right between Mandraki Harbour and the northern moat of the Medieval Old Town.
1. How the Twin Bus Terminals at Rimini Square (Mandraki) Work
Walk two minutes north from the Old Town's d'Amboise Gate or New Market (Nea Agora) at Mandraki to Rimini Square / Averof Street, where two separate bus companies operate from adjacent kiosks:
- 1. KTEL Rodou (Eastern Coast Bus Terminal, Yellow/Orange Kiosk): serves the entire sunny, calm Eastern Coast. Buy your ticket at the booth (cash or card) for frequent coaches to:
- Kallithea Springs & Faliraki (every 20 to 30 mins, ~standard fare, standard fare),
- Anthony Quinn Bay / Ladiko, Afandou & Tsambika Beach,
- Seven Springs (Epta Piges),
- Lindos Village, Pefkos & Prasonisi (buses to Lindos run every 30 to 60 minutes in summer, taking 60 to 70 minutes at current official rates ).
- 2. DES RODA (Western Coast & City Bus Terminal, Right Next Door): serves Ixia, Ialyssos, Filerimos, Diagoras Airport (RHO), Butterfly Valley (Petaloudes) and Ancient Kamiros.
2. Morning Beach & Lindos Boats from Mandraki Harbour
If you prefer sailing down the coast instead of riding a bus, walk along the western quay of Mandraki Harbour: every morning at early in the morning, excursion boats depart for Lindos (giving you 3.5 hours in Lindos plus a swimming stop in Tsambika or Anthony Quinn Bay on the way back) and for 3-Bay Snorkelling Cruises (Kallithea + Anthony Quinn Bay + Traganou Caves).
3. Renting a Car in Rhodes (Parking Tips for Old Town & Lindos)
Roads on Rhodes are wide, well-paved and 100% tarmac (unlike Balos in Crete, even Monolithos and Prasonisi are reached on paved roads). Two smart parking rules: in Rhodes Town, park for free along the harbour wall at Akandia Commercial Port (a 7-minute flat walk to the Old Town); in Lindos, park at the large upper cliff car parks above the village and take the free/standard fare municipal shuttle van down to the square.
