Best Time to Visit Vancouver
When to go for dry weather, blossoms, skiing or quieter streets.
Short answer: July, August and September. They're the driest, sunniest months, and September keeps the summer weather with fewer visitors.
Vancouver's climate is milder than the rest of Canada's and much wetter. Snow in the city is rare. Rain is not. The pattern is simple: a dry, sunny summer and a long, grey, damp winter, with spring and autumn changing places between the two.
Summer (July to early September)
Daytime temperatures usually sit in the low to mid 20s°C, rarely hot, and the evenings stay light until late. It's the season for the seawall, the beaches, the Grouse Grind and the ferries to the islands. It's also the most expensive time for hotels, and the Sea to Sky Highway and the BC Ferries terminals get busy at weekends. Late July or early August brings the Celebration of Light, a fireworks competition over English Bay across several nights. In some summers, smoke from wildfires in the interior can haze the sky for a few days.
September is our pick of the year. The water is still warm enough for a quick swim, the light turns gold, and the crowds thin once school goes back.
Spring (March to June)
Cherry blossoms line hundreds of streets from late March through April, and the city holds a cherry blossom festival around them. It's cool and changeable, with sunny days between showers. May and June are lovely but less reliable than summer, and June can be surprisingly grey.
Autumn (October to November)
October starts dry and ends wet. Maples turn red and yellow in Stanley Park and Queen Elizabeth Park. By November, the rain has settled in.
Winter (December to February)
Grey, around 5°C, and rain on most days. The upside: the local mountains (Grouse, Cypress and Seymour) open for skiing, Whistler is in full swing, and city hotels are at their cheapest. Plan museum days and cosy restaurants, and pack for it with our what to wear guide.
A note on 2026: Vancouver hosted seven FIFA World Cup matches at BC Place in June and July 2026, when hotels were fully booked. That's over now, and autumn 2026 prices are back to normal. For planning your days in any season, see our three-day itinerary.
