A Concert at Mohegan Arena, Wilkes-Barre
This north-east Pennsylvania arena is a driving trip from New York or Philadelphia, close to Scranton and the Pocono Mountains.
Overview
Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza is the main arena of north-eastern Pennsylvania, on the edge of Wilkes-Barre in the Wyoming Valley along the Susquehanna River. It is a regional venue, surrounded by roads and car parks rather than a downtown, and the big tours that stop here draw fans from across Pennsylvania, New York State and New Jersey.
Journey play here on Friday 6 November 2026 on their Final Frontier farewell tour. Our Journey tour cities guide covers the other dates, including Uniondale on Long Island the following night.
Making a trip of it
This is coal country. The valley grew on anthracite mining, and the region's history is told in Scranton, half an hour or so north, at the Steamtown National Historic Site, a railway museum with steam locomotives, and at the Lackawanna coal mine tour, which takes you underground. Fans of the American version of The Office will recognise Scranton's name and a few of its sights.
To the east are the Pocono Mountains, a long-standing weekend escape from New York and Philadelphia, with lakes, forest trails and waterfalls. By early November the autumn colour is usually past its peak, but the hills are quiet and the lodges cheaper than in summer. A night in the Poconos turns a long drive for a concert into a short break.
If you are travelling from New York, this is a drive of a few hours each way, so we would not plan to return the same night.
Food and evenings
The Wyoming Valley has its own food traditions, shaped by generations of Polish, Italian, Irish and Welsh mining families. Look for pierogi, local pizza styles served in rectangular trays, and church and diner food that has changed little in decades. Evenings are quiet in the small towns, and the area's casino is the main late-night option. After the show most people simply head back to their hotel, which is another reason to book one nearby.
For visitors from abroad, this is the most rural stop on the autumn leg, and a chance to see the small-town, post-industrial Pennsylvania that rarely features in travel guides.
Because the show is on a Friday and Uniondale follows on Saturday, some fans see both, staying a night in the area before driving east to Long Island. The two arenas could hardly be more different: one a regional hall among the hills, the other a classic suburban arena outside New York.
Tickets & Getting There
Tickets
Buy from the arena's official ticket seller or through the band's official site. Avoid unofficial resale offers.
Getting there
You will need a car. The arena is just off Interstate 81, with large car parks on site; leaving after a sold-out show takes time, so be patient or wait a while before heading out. The nearest airport is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International, with limited connections; most visitors from abroad fly into New York or Philadelphia and drive. Some coach services link New York with Wilkes-Barre, but they are not practical for getting back late at night.
Where to stay
- Near the arena: chain hotels along the main roads, convenient for a late finish.
- Downtown Wilkes-Barre or Scranton: a little more character and restaurants.
- The Poconos: lodges and inns for a longer stay, a drive from the show.
Accessibility and VIP
Accessible seats are sold through the official seller; ask the arena's guest services about parking close to the entrance. Buy VIP packages only through the band's official site.
Tips
- Check the arena's bag policy before you set off.
- Do not drive back to the city the same night after a late show; book a room nearby.
- Watch for deer on country roads after dark, a real hazard in this part of Pennsylvania in autumn.
- Bring warm clothes. Early November nights in the valley can be close to freezing.
- Fill up with fuel before heading into the hills; petrol stations are fewer than in the cities.
- Combine it with Uniondale the next night if you are following the tour; it is a few hours' drive east to Long Island.
- Check the coal mine tour season before planning on it; some attractions close in late autumn.
- Book a room early; hotels near the arena are limited and fill on concert nights.
- Check road conditions on Interstate 81 before you drive; early winter weather can arrive in November.
