How a Hot Air Balloon Takes Off: Burner Flames at Dawn in Pamukkale

by JourneyCities · visited October 2026 · shared 14 October 2026

Before sunrise in Pamukkale, the balloon crews get to work in the launch field. First, big fans blow cold air into the envelope as it lies on the ground. Then the pilot fires the burners, the flames heat the air inside, and the balloon slowly lifts itself upright. A few minutes later it is ready to drift over the white travertine terraces and the ancient city of Hierapolis.

The roar of the burners and the glow of the flames in the dark are one of the best moments of a balloon morning, and most people miss them. If you are planning a flight, get to the launch field early and watch the inflation before you board. Flights only go ahead when the wind allows, so keep a spare morning in your plans.
