3 Days in Prague: A Day-by-Day Itinerary
Three well-paced days that start early, avoid the crowds and end at a beer garden.
This plan keeps each day on one side of the river and puts the busiest sights first thing in the morning. It assumes you arrive the evening before Day 1. If the Jewish Museum's closure on Saturday falls in your stay, swap Days 2 and 3.
Day 1: Prague Castle and Malá Strana
- 8:00: walk Charles Bridge while it is quiet, then climb the Old Town Bridge Tower if it is open.
- 9:00: tram 22 up to the Pražský hrad stop. Enter the castle through the Royal Garden: St Vitus Cathedral first, then the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica and Golden Lane.
- 12:00: watch the noon changing of the guard, or skip it and walk to Strahov Monastery for the library halls and lunch at the monastery brewery.
- 14:30: walk down Nerudova to St Nicholas Church, then the Wallenstein Garden and Kampa Island.
- 17:00: climb Petřín Hill, or take the funicular, for sunset over the city.
- Evening: dinner in Malá Strana, then cross the bridge as the lights come on.
Day 2: The Old Town and the Jewish Quarter
- 9:00: start in Josefov as the Jewish Museum opens: the Pinkas Synagogue and Old Jewish Cemetery, then the Spanish Synagogue and the Old-New Synagogue.
- 12:30: lunch from a pub's daily menu away from the square.
- 14:00: the Old Town Square, the astronomical clock on the hour and the town hall tower.
- 16:00: the Powder Tower and a coffee in the Municipal House, then up Wenceslas Square to the National Museum.
- Evening: a concert at the Rudolfinum or the Smetana Hall, or Czech dishes from our food list.
Day 3: Vyšehrad, the river and Letná
- 9:30: metro to Vyšehrad for the ramparts, basilica and cemetery.
- 11:30: walk down to the Náplavka riverbank (on Saturdays, the farmers' market) and along the river past the Dancing House.
- 13:30: lunch in Vinohrady, then a coffee on Náměstí Míru.
- 16:00: tram to Letná for the metronome viewpoint and the beer garden until sunset.
With a fourth day: pick one of our day trips, such as the train to Kutná Hora for St Barbara's Cathedral and the Sedlec Ossuary (book the ossuary online first), or to Karlštejn Castle, 40 minutes south-west. Travellers in winter should read our seasonal guide, as short days mean starting the evening plans earlier.
