Getting Around Sedona: The Free Sedona Shuttle to Trailheads, Red Rock Pass & Roundabouts
How the free Sedona Shuttle works for the five most popular hikes, and when your National Parks Pass covers trailhead parking.
Because Sedona's most popular trailheads sit inside narrow forest canyons with small car parks that used to overflow early in the morning, the City of Sedona and the US Forest Service launched the complimentary 'Sedona Shuttle', transforming how visitors access the top five hikes.
1. How the Free Sedona Shuttle Works (Thursday to Sunday + Daily in Peak Weeks)
The Sedona Shuttle runs from early morning until late afternoon every Thursday to Sunday year-round, plus daily during peak spring and holiday periods. No reservation, ticket or Red Rock Pass is needed; park for free at a Park & Ride hub and hop on the bus (departing every 15 to 30 minutes):
- From Posse Grounds Park & Ride (525 Posse Ground Rd in West Sedona):
- Line 11 → Mescal Trailhead (for Devil's Bridge) & Dry Creek Vista
- Line 12 → Boynton Canyon Trailhead (Subway Cave & Vortex) & Dry Creek Vista
- Line 14 → Soldier Pass Trailhead (Seven Sacred Pools & Sinkhole)
- From SR-179 Park & Ride (1294 SR-179, North of Village of Oak Creek):
- Line 15 → Cathedral Rock Trailhead & Little Horse Trailhead (Chicken Point)
- Rule When the Shuttle Is Running: trailhead car parks at Cathedral Rock, Soldier Pass and Dry Creek Vista close to private cars during shuttle hours. To drive your own car to Cathedral Rock for sunrise or sunset, the road barrier opens before morning shuttles begin and after late-afternoon shuttles end.
2. The Red Rock Pass & Using Your National Parks Pass
When parking your car at the 20+ other US Forest Service trailheads around Sedona (such as Bell Rock, Courthouse Vista, Fay Canyon, Doe Mountain, Bear Mountain, Brins Mesa, Palatki, or at Cathedral Rock and Mescal on non-shuttle weekdays), display a pass on your dashboard:
- Have an America the Beautiful Interagency National Parks Pass? Place it face-up on your dashboard; it covers the Red Rock Pass fee at no extra cost.
- Need a Red Rock Pass? Buy a daily or weekly pass by card at the solar kiosk in the car park or online at recreation.gov.
