Sochi 3-Day Itinerary: Historic Harbour, Subtropical Parks, Olympic Coast and Rosa Khutor
A balanced three-day route linking central Sochi's subtropical parks and Stalinist landmarks with the Sirius coastal cluster and the high peaks of Rosa Khutor.
Because Greater Sochi is divided into three distinct geographic zones linked by electric Lastochka trains, structuring a three-day itinerary by corridor eliminates wasted transit time. Spending Day 1 in historic central Sochi, Day 2 between the Khostinsky District hills and the Sirius Olympic waterfront, and Day 3 in the Mzymta Valley and alpine peaks of Krasnaya Polyana gives you the complete spectrum of the Black Sea Riviera and Western Caucasus.

Day 1: Central Sochi: Station Courtyards, Sea Port, Lighthouse and Arboretum
- Morning (Navaginskaya Street and the Harbour): Begin at Alexey Dushkin's 1952 Sochi Railway Station at 56 Gorkogo Street to admire its 55-metre zodiac clock tower and three arcaded inner courtyards. Walk the length of palm-lined pedestrian Navaginskaya Street and cross Kurortny Prospekt to the 1955 Sochi Marine Terminal at 1 Voykova Street. Inspect the 71-metre stainless-steel spire, the Navigation fountain, and the cruise ship piers before climbing the steps to the historic plateau of Fort Navaginsky to see the 1890 Sochi Lighthouse and the 1891 Cathedral of the Archangel Michael.
- Midday (Primorskaya Promenade to the Art Museum): Follow the upper Primorsky Park terrace southeast past the 1936 Hotel Primorskaya to the 1936 Sochi Art Museum at 51 Kurortny Prospekt to view the 1st-century-BC Mzymta Treasure and Russian landscape paintings, then walk to the 88-column peristyle of the 1937 Winter Theatre and the adjacent Phytofantasia garden.
- Afternoon and Evening (Sochi Arboretum and Riviera Park): Continue southeast along Kurortny Prospekt to the Sochi Arboretum. Ride the nearly 900-metre cable car to the upper observation deck and stroll downhill past Villa Nadezhda, the Mauritanian Arbour, and the Lower Park ponds. End the evening at a harbourfront restaurant with pan-fried Black Sea red mullet (barabulka) from our Sochi food guide.

Day 2: Khostinsky District (Stalin's Dacha, Agura Gorge & Mount Akhun) and Sirius Olympic Park
- Morning (Stalin's Dacha and Agura Waterfalls): Travel 15 minutes southeast into Khostinsky District to tour Miron Merzhanov's 1937 dark-green Stalin Dacha at Zelyonaya Roshcha and view the columned portico of Bathhouse No. 4 in Old Matsesta. From nearby Sputnik, hike into Agura Gorge to the turquoise pool of the 30-metre Lower Agura Waterfall and the 125-metre limestone cliffs of Eagle Rocks, then ascend the 11-kilometre road to the 1936 Romanesque tower atop 663-metre Mount Akhun.
- Afternoon and Evening (Khosta Grove and Sirius Waterfront): Stop in Khosta to walk the 1.6-kilometre Small Ring through the Stone Labyrinth of the Khosta Yew-Boxwood Grove, then board a southbound Lastochka train from Khosta or Adler to Imeretinsky Kurort. Rent a bicycle along the flat six-kilometre Imeretinskaya Embankment, circle Fisht Olympic Stadium and Bolshoy Ice Dome, and stay after dusk for the musical fountain show at the Olympic Cauldron.

Day 3: Skypark, Akhshtyr Gorge and Rosa Khutor (2,320 Metres)
- Morning (Akhshtyr Gorge and Skypark): Head up the Mzymta Valley to Akhshtyr Gorge to walk the 439-metre Skybridge suspended 207 metres above the Mzymta River and step inside the Paleolithic gallery of Akhshtyrskaya Cave.
- Afternoon (Rosa Khutor and Roza Peak): Continue to Rosa Khutor (560 metres), ride the three-stage gondola system (Olympia, Zapovedny Les, and Caucasus Express) to the 2,320-metre summit of Roza Peak on the Aibga Ridge, and dine on Kuban vareniki and blinchiki in Roza Dolina before taking the evening Lastochka train back to the coast.
Extending Your Trip to 4 or 5 Days
With a fourth or fifth day, add a guided subterranean tour through the 11.7-kilometre Vorontsovo Cave system in the upper Kudepsta Valley and a walk along the wooden boardwalks of the 33 Waterfalls in the Shakhe River valley.
