Where to Stay in Whistler: Whistler Village vs Upper Village (Blackcomb) & Creekside

Choosing your ideal Whistler base: right on the lively Village Stroll, ski-in/ski-out in the quiet Upper Village, or lakeside in Creekside.

Whistler's hotels, condo lodges and chalets are grouped into three distinct pedestrian village bases, all with their own high-speed gondolas up the mountain and all connected by the car-free Valley Trail and transit buses. Here is how to choose the right one for your trip.

1. Whistler Village (Main Village & Village North, Best for Walkability, Dining & First-Timers)

If you are arriving by bus without a car and want to be in the middle of the action, stay along the Village Stroll:

  • Main Village (Near Skier's Plaza, Gondola Base): puts you 100 to 300 metres from both the Whistler Village Gondola and the Excalibur Gondola to Blackcomb. Top picks include the boutique Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside (the closest hotel in town to both gondolas, with an outdoor heated pool overlooking Skier's Plaza), Sundial Hotel, Westin Resort & Spa, Hilton Whistler Resort and design-forward Adara Hotel (or the compact Pangea Pod Hotel).
  • Village North (Around Olympic Plaza & Marketplace, 6 Mins' Walk from the Gondolas): noticeably quieter at night and right beside the grocery store, Olympic Rings and Purebread (look at suite-style lodges with full kitchens and private hot tubs like Alpenglow Lodge, Summit Lodge or Delta Hotels Whistler Village Suites).

2. The Upper Village / Blackcomb Base (Best for Quiet Luxury, Families & Lost Lake Access)

Connected to the Main Village by a flat 5-to-8-minute forested bridge walk (and the free Route #5 Shuttle), the Upper Village sits directly at the base of the 10-passenger Blackcomb Gondola and the trails to Lost Lake. There are no noisy nightclubs here, just Whistler's two flagship five-star resorts (the Fairmont Chateau Whistler and Four Seasons Resort Whistler) alongside family condo lodges like Le Chamois, Aspens on Blackcomb and Glacier Lodge.

3. Whistler Creekside & Nita Lake (5 km South, Best for Value, Couples & Shorter Lift Queues)

Located 5 minutes south down Highway 99 (linked every 15 mins by Bus #10 and the lakeside Valley Trail), Creekside is where Whistler began in 1966: it has its own 10-person Creekside Gondola straight up Whistler Mountain, a supermarket, Rimrock Cafe and Dusty's, gentler condo rates (Legends, First Tracks Lodge), and the romantic lakeside boutique Nita Lake Lodge.
