Adventure Capital: Whistler Mountain Bike Park, Ziptrek Ecotours (Sasquatch) & Bungee
Why Whistler is the summer gravity capital of the world: the #1 Mountain Bike Park, the 2km Sasquatch Zipline and 50m river bungee.
When the snow melts on the lower mountain in May, Whistler Blackcomb transforms overnight into the undisputed gravity-sports and eco-adventure capital of the world, led by the planet's largest lift-serviced mountain bike park, a two-kilometre-long monster zipline between both mountains, and whitewater rafting.
1. The Whistler Mountain Bike Park (Open May to October, Beginners Can Try It Too)
Stretching across four mountain zones (Fitzsimmons, Garbanzo, Creekside and Peak) serviced by high-speed gondolas and chairlifts fitted with bike racks, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park draws riders from around the globe to legendary trails like A-Line and Crank It Up. Never ridden downhill mountain biking before? Book the 'Bike Park 101' 2-Hour Beginner Package: it includes a full-suspension downhill rental bike, full-face helmet, body armour, a lift ticket, and a patient coach who teaches you braking and cornering on smooth, wide Green beginner trails like EZ Does It (which winds gently for 6 km down through the forest). (Prefer cross-country forest singletrack without chairlifts? Whistler has over 300 km of WORCA trails around Lost Lake).
2. Ziptrek Ecotours (Bear, Eagle & The 2-Kilometre 'Sasquatch' Zipline)
Departing directly from Whistler Village, Ziptrek Ecotours links suspended treetop boardwalk platforms in the old-growth cedar canopy between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains (operating 365 days a year, even in a winter snowstorm):
- The Bear Tour (4 to 5 Ziplines) & Eagle Tour (5 Ziplines Ending Right in Skier's Plaza): on the Eagle Tour, your final zipline launches off the mountain and flies right over the ski base into the middle of Whistler Village.
- The 'Sasquatch' Zipline (Summer, Longest Zipline in Canada & the USA): a single, jaw-dropping cable spanning over 2 kilometres (7,000+ feet) across the entire Fitzsimmons Valley from Blackcomb Mountain to Whistler Mountain at 180 metres (600 feet) in mid-air, reaching speeds over 100 km/h (62 mph).
3. Whistler Bungee (50m Over the Glacial Cheakamus River) & Whitewater Rafting
Fifteen minutes south of the village near Calcheak, Whistler Bungee lets you leap 50 metres (160 feet) off a steel suspension bridge into a narrow basalt volcanic gorge directly above the roaring turquoise Cheakamus River (open year-round), while summer rafting companies run Class 2 to 4 rapids on the Green, Elaho and Squamish rivers.
