How to Get to Ibiza
Airport buses and taxis, ferries, car hire and getting home at night.
Short answer: fly into Ibiza Airport, then take the AERO3 express bus or a taxi into Ibiza Town, a short ride. Ferries are the alternative from mainland Spain and Mallorca, and all of them use the port of Ibiza Town.
By air
Ibiza Airport lies a few kilometres south-west of Ibiza Town and handles both scheduled and seasonal charter flights from across Europe, with far fewer routes in winter. Five bus lines run from the terminal. AERO3 is the express to Ibiza Town and AERO2 also serves the town via Sant Jordi; both run all year, as does AERO5 to Playa d'en Bossa and Ses Figueretes. AERO1 to Sant Antoni and Sant Josep, and AERO4 to Santa Eulària, Es Canar and Cala Nova, are seasonal (in 2026 they started on 1 April). Fares and timetables are on the Alsa Ibiza website. For a taxi, go to the signed rank outside arrivals and ignore anyone offering a ride inside the terminal. Expect queues on summer weekends.
By ferry
Ferries reach Ibiza Town from Dénia (the shortest crossing from the mainland, around two to three hours), Valencia and Barcelona, and from Palma de Mallorca. Operators include Baleària, Trasmed and GNV; compare times on their sites, since fast and slow boats differ by hours. Sant Antoni's harbour handles only local boats. For Formentera, ferries leave Ibiza port many times a day and take 30 to 60 minutes. If you bring your own car between June and September, it needs an entry permit from the island authorities.
Getting around the island
Buses connect Ibiza Town with Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària, Playa d'en Bossa and the main resorts, but rural coves are poorly served. Taxis wait at ranks in each town and can be booked by phone; in August they are hard to find at peak times. Car hire gives the most freedom, especially for the north and west, and island rentals need no special permit. Scooters suit short hops around one area, but the roads to many coves are steep and narrow. Our travel guide covers whether you need a car.
At night
From late May to late September, the Discobus runs through the night between Sant Antoni, Ibiza Town, Playa d'en Bossa and the big clubs, with a reduced service around the opening and closing parties; in 2026 a line to Santa Eulària and Es Canar was added. Taxi queues outside clubs at closing time can be long, so plan your return before you go out, and never get into an unlicensed car. The nightlife guide has more on timing.
