Manila 3-Day Itinerary: Intramuros, Binondo and Modern BGC

A traffic-smart three-day route separating historic Old Manila from modern Makati and BGC.

This three-day itinerary keeps your travel time low by dedicating two days to the historic quarters along Manila Bay and the Pasig River, and a separate third day to the modern parks, museums and dining districts of Makati and Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Read our practical briefing before setting out.

Day 1: Walled Intramuros, Fort Santiago, San Agustin & Casa Manila

  • Morning: arrive in Intramuros early while the volcanic-stone streets are cool; start at Fort Santiago above the Pasig River to walk the stone ramparts, Plaza Moriones and the Rizal Shrine Museum.
  • Late morning: stroll south to Plaza de Roma and step inside reconstructed Manila Cathedral, then join a Bambike (bamboo bicycle) tour along the outer bastions and circular Baluarte de San Diego gardens.
  • Midday: pause for traditional Filipino dishes and a tall glass of purple-yam halo-halo inside a heritage courtyard on General Luna Street.
  • Afternoon: spend two hours exploring UNESCO-listed San Agustin Church (1607) and its cloister museum of galleon-trade art, followed by the 19th-century stone-and-hardwood rooms of Casa Manila across the lane.
  • Sunset: walk out toward the bayfront or roof decks of Intramuros to watch the sun sink behind the Bataan Peninsula across Manila Bay.

Day 2: The Free National Museum Complex, Binondo Chinatown & Rizal Park

  • Morning: cross Jones Bridge into Binondo (founded in 1594 as the world's oldest Chinatown); visit Binondo Church on Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz, then graze along Ongpin Street and Carvajal Alley on pan-fried dumplings, fresh Hokkien lumpia and ube hopia pastries, pausing on Escolta Street on your way back.
  • Midday and afternoon: escape the midday heat inside the air-conditioned halls of the free National Museum Complex around Agrifina Circle: admire Juan Luna's monumental Spoliarium in the National Museum of Fine Arts, pre-colonial burial jars and textiles in Anthropology, and the Tree of Life dome in Natural History.
  • Late afternoon: stroll west through Rizal Park (Luneta) past the Japanese and Chinese gardens to the Rizal Monument at dusk.

Day 3: Ayala Museum, Greenbelt, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) & Poblacion

  • Morning: start in Makati with the weekend farmers' market (Salcedo on Saturday or Legazpi on Sunday) or a coffee walk through Ayala Triangle Gardens, then visit the Ayala Museum to see the pre-colonial Gold of Ancestors treasure halls and historical dioramas.
  • Midday: walk through the shaded rain-tree park of Greenbelt for a modern Filipino lunch of adobo, crispy sisig and sinigang.
  • Afternoon and evening: take a ten-minute ride east into Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to follow the open-air murals and boutiques along Bonifacio High Street and Burgos Circle, finishing with dinner in BGC or craft cocktails in Makati's Poblacion before your onward island flight.
