Getting Around Mykonos: The 2 KTEL Bus Stations, SeaBus and Car/ATV Tips

Mastering Mykonos's two KTEL bus terminals (Fabrika vs Old Port) and the SeaBus so you never get stranded.

Here is the single most useful practical secret in Mykonos: while private minivan transfers and the island's tiny fleet of 35 taxis are expensive in peak summer, Mykonos has one of the best, most punctual and most frequent public KTEL bus networks in the Greek Islands (running before dawn to before dawn in July and August at current official rates ). The only catch is that Mykonos Town has TWO completely separate bus stations located 15 minutes' walk apart on opposite sides of the pedestrian zone, and they do not connect to each other.

1. Which of the 2 KTEL Bus Stations in Chora Do You Need?

  • Station 1: FABRIKA Square (Southern Terminal, 5 mins south of the Windmills): serves all the south-western and southern beaches plus the Airport. Go to Fabrika for buses to:
    • Ornos & Agios Ioannis (every 15 to 30 mins),
    • Platys Gialos (every 15 to 30 mins, for the Southern Beach Water Taxis and walking to Psarou/Paraga),
    • Paraga & Paradise Beach (every 15 to 30 mins until late night),
    • Mykonos Airport (JMK).
  • Station 2: OLD PORT Terminal (Northern Terminal, Right behind the Archaeological Museum & SeaBus pier): serves the northern coast, the inland village and the eastern beaches. Go to the Old Port for buses to:
    • Tourlos (New Ferry Port) & Agios Stefanos (every 20 to 30 mins),
    • Ano Mera Village, Kalafatis & Kalo Livadi,
    • Elia Beach & Panormos.
  • How to Pay on KTEL Buses: carry small euro cash notes or coins to pay the conductor at the bus door or ticket booth before boarding.

2. Renting a Car vs Scooter / ATV Quad Bike (Important Safety Note)

You do not need a rental vehicle for Chora, Delos or the southern beaches. If you want to explore the unserved northern coves (Agios Sostis, Fokos and Mersini) or drive up to Armenistis Lighthouse for sunset, rent a compact small car (such as a Fiat Panda or Toyota Aygo) for 1 or 2 days rather than an ATV quad bike or scooter unless you are an experienced rider: Mykonos's inland granite roads are narrow, hilly, unlit at night and lack paved shoulders.
