3 Days in Queenstown: TSS Earnslaw & Bob's Peak, Arrowtown & Gibbston, Plus Milford Sound
A complete 3-day Queenstown itinerary: spend Day 1 on Lake Wakatipu aboard the 1912 TSS Earnslaw and atop Bob's Peak, Day 2 exploring Arrowtown, Kawarau Bridge, and Gibbston Pinot Noir, and Day 3 in Milford Sound or Glenorchy.
Three full days in Queenstown let you experience the lakeside town and its surrounding peaks on Day 1, the 1862 goldfields and southernmost Pinot Noir vineyards on Day 2, and either UNESCO-listed Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) or Glenorchy and the Routeburn Track on Day 3.

Day 1: Queenstown Gardens, 1912 TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak & Skyline Bob's Peak
- 09:00, Queenstown Gardens Peninsula & Queenstown Hill Walk: Start with a flat white and flaky pastry at Steamer Wharf, stroll the 3.2-kilometre lakeshore loop around 1867 Queenstown Gardens past the 1913 Scott Memorial, and (if the morning is clear) hike the 2.5-hour Queenstown Hill Time Walk to the Basket of Dreams lookout (or tackle the full-day 1,748m Ben Lomond Track).
- 13:00, TSS Earnslaw Coal Steamer Cruise to Walter Peak High Country Farm: Board the 1912 twin-screw coal steamer TSS Earnslaw at Steamer Wharf, watch the stokers shovel coal in the open engine room, and cross Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak High Country Farm for a working sheepdog demonstration and afternoon tea or lakeside BBQ at the Colonel's Homestead.
- 17:30, Skyline Gondola, Luge Rides & Otago Lamb Dinner: Ride the Skyline Gondola 450 vertical metres up Bob's Peak for gravity Luge runs and sunset photographs over The Remarkables before descending for slow-roasted Otago Merino lamb or a late-night Shotover Street burger.

Day 2: Shotover Canyons, Arrowtown Goldfields, 1880 Kawarau Bridge & Gibbston Pinot Noir
- 09:00, Shotover River Canyons & Historic Arrowtown: Stop at Arthur's Point to watch (or ride) red jet boats skimming through the vertical schist walls of the Shotover River Canyons, then continue ten minutes east to 1862 Arrowtown to walk Buckingham Street, the Lakes District Museum, and the restored huts of the 1868 Arrowtown Chinese Settlement.
- 13:00, 1880 Kawarau Suspension Bridge & Gibbston ("Valley of the Vines"): Walk onto the 43-metre-high 1880 Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge (birthplace of commercial bungy jumping in 1988) and spend the afternoon touring or e-biking between the cool-climate Pinot Noir cellar doors of the Gibbston Valley, including the underground schist Wine Cave at Gibbston Valley Winery, cliffside Chard Farm, and Kinross.

Day 3: Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) Full-Day Excursion OR Glenorchy & Routeburn Track
- Option A (Milford Sound Coach + Cruise or Scenic Flight): Join an early-morning coach excursion via Te Anau, the Eglinton Valley, and the 1.2 km Homer Tunnel (or take a 35-minute fixed-wing alpine flight from ZQN) to cruise beneath 1,692-metre Mitre Peak and Stirling Falls in Milford Sound / Piopiotahi.
- Option B (Glenorchy, Lagoon Boardwalk, Paradise & Routeburn Track Day Walk): Prefer less driving? Follow the scenic 45-minute lakeshore highway north-west to Bennetts Bluff, Glenorchy's Red Boat Shed, and the Glenorchy Lagoon boardwalk, then hike through red-beech forest to Routeburn Flats on the Routeburn Track.
