Best Time to Visit Seville
A season-by-season guide to heat, crowds, festivals, prices and the best hours for walking.
The simplest answer is spring or autumn. Seville can be brilliant in summer, but you need to accept a different daily rhythm. The city is at its easiest when you can walk for several hours without planning every move around shade.
Spring: the classic Seville
Spring brings pleasant walking weather and the city's most famous festival period. Holy Week and the April Fair can be extraordinary cultural experiences, but they also change the practical side of a trip. Accommodation sells quickly and prices can rise sharply because demand is high. Book early if either event is the reason you are coming.
Outside the peak festival weeks, spring is ideal for Plaza de España, María Luisa Park and long evenings outside.
Summer: possible, but plan around the heat
Summer is for early starts, long lunches and late evenings. Do the Alcázar or Cathedral in the morning, retreat indoors during the hottest part of the afternoon, and return to the streets after sunset. Hotels with a pool or strong air conditioning become much more attractive at this time of year.
Budget can be mixed: lower demand for some city-break travellers can coexist with high prices for popular hotels and weekends. Do not assume every summer week is cheap.
Autumn: the comfortable compromise
September and October often restore the kind of weather that makes Seville easy to walk, while the city is less dominated by the spring festival calendar. It is an excellent season for neighbourhood wandering, tapas and day trips.
Winter: best for space
Winter has fewer heat-related constraints and can be excellent for museums, monuments and long lunches. Daylight is shorter, and some outdoor plans need more flexibility, but the centre can feel pleasantly unhurried.
Festival calendar
Holy Week moves every year because it follows the liturgical calendar. Seville's tourism office currently lists the 2027 Holy Week as 21 to 28 March. The 2027 April Fair is scheduled for 13 to 18 April. These dates are useful when planning ahead, but always re-check the official calendar for the year of travel.
Spring without the festivals
One of the best compromises is to travel in spring while avoiding the two headline festival periods. You still get the visual appeal of orange blossom and long evenings without committing to the most crowded weeks. This is also a good season for combining Seville with Córdoba or other Andalusian cities by rail.
Autumn is excellent for long days outside
Autumn suits the way Seville is naturally experienced: walking between neighbourhoods, stopping for lunch, and returning to the river or a terrace in the evening. September can still be hot, while October usually offers a more forgiving balance.
How weather should change your plan
Do not build a day around six hours of continuous sightseeing. A better rhythm is one major monument, lunch, a shaded or indoor stop, and then another walk later. Seville is more enjoyable when the itinerary leaves room for the climate rather than pretending it does not exist.
