Best Things to Do in Seville

The cathedral, Alcázar, Plaza de España, Triana, tapas, riverfront and flamenco, with a sense of what to prioritise.

Seville's best experiences are not all monuments. The trick is to pair one major sight with a neighbourhood or food experience so that the day keeps changing pace.

1. Real Alcázar

Start here if you only have one morning. The palace complex contains Islamic, Mudéjar, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque layers, with rooms and gardens extending well beyond the first courtyard.50 and separate access to the Cuarto Real Alto. Summer and winter hours differ, so check the current schedule before travelling.

2. Cathedral and Giralda

The Cathedral is the city's other essential. UNESCO recognises the complex as part of Seville's World Heritage property and identifies the Giralda as a masterpiece of Almohad architecture. The climb to the tower viewpoint is one of the best ways to understand the city's scale because the historic centre stays low around you.

3. Plaza de España and María Luisa Park

Go earlier or later in the day rather than treating Plaza de España as a midday endurance test. The semicircular complex was built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, while María Luisa Park provides the shade and greenery that make the area feel less monumental and more leisurely. The park is also one of the city's easiest places to slow down.

4. Walk Santa Cruz without a fixed route

Santa Cruz is at its best when you stop navigating perfectly. The official tourism guide highlights narrow lanes, courtyards, Callejón del Agua and small squares such as Plaza de Doña Elvira. It is one of the city's busiest tourist areas, so early morning or later evening usually feels more spacious.

5. Cross to Triana

Triana gives you a different Seville. Walk the riverfront, look at the ceramic tiles, visit the market and, if you are interested in the craft, spend time at the Triana Ceramics Centre. The neighbourhood also has strong flamenco associations and a lively bar culture.

6. Eat your way through the markets

Mercado de Triana, Mercado de la Encarnación and Mercado de Feria make useful anchors for food exploration. Seville tourism highlights them as community spaces as much as shopping venues. Go hungry, but avoid turning the market into a museum: watch what locals are buying and choose something that looks like part of ordinary life.

7. Take in Seville from above

Las Setas is the obvious modern viewpoint. The structure sits on the Encarnación, Alameda axis, where older streets meet a younger cultural scene. The point is not to replace the historic centre but to see how the city fits together.

8. See flamenco live

Choose based on the type of experience you want. A dedicated tablao is easiest for a first visit; a smaller peña can feel more intimate. Seville tourism identifies tablaos, neighbourhood peñas and the Flamenco Dance Museum as part of the city's flamenco ecosystem.
