Where to Stay in Bariloche: Centro Cívico, Los Kilómetros, Llao Llao & Cerro Catedral
Compare the best areas to stay in Bariloche, Argentina: walkable downtown near Centro Cívico, lakefront lodges along Avenida Bustillo ('Los Kilómetros'), Llao Llao Peninsula, or Villa Catedral.
Because San Carlos de Bariloche stretches twenty-five kilometres from its urban core out to the forested tip of the Llao Llao Peninsula (plus another nineteen kilometres inland to the base of Cerro Catedral), choosing the right neighbourhood depends on whether you have a rental car and whether your priority is evening dining walkability, tranquil lake views, or first-chair ski access.

1. El Centro (Around Centro Cívico, Calle Mitre & Calle Morales): Best Without a Car
If you are relying on municipal buses and organised day excursions, staying within six blocks of the Centro Cívico is by far the most convenient choice:
- Everything on Foot at Night: You can step out of your hotel directly onto Calle Mitre for hot chocolate and pastries, walk up to Calle Juramento and Calle Morales (the lively microbrewery quarter around the Club Andino Bariloche), and catch Mi Bus lines 20 and 55 on Avenida 12 de Octubre / Moreno without ever needing a taxi.

2. "Los Kilómetros" (Avenida Exequiel Bustillo Km 4 to Km 18, Melipal & Playa Bonita): Best Balance of Lake Views & Town Access
Stretching westward along the shoreline of Lago Nahuel Huapi from residential Melipal (Km 4) past Playa Bonita (Km 8) and Puerto Manzano / Serena (Km 12 to Km 17), this corridor lines up boutique cypress-and-stone hosterías, family cabañas (chalets with fireplaces and lake decks), and some of Bariloche's best restaurants and brewpubs.
3. Península Llao Llao & Lago Moreno (Av. Bustillo Km 20 to Km 25): Best for Forest Tranquillity & Iconic Scenery
At the western end of Avenida Bustillo along Circuito Chico, luxury resort lodges and woodland inns sit steps from the Puerto Pañuelo catamaran pier and the forest trails of Parque Municipal Llao Llao.
4. Villa Catedral (Base of Cerro Catedral, 19 km South-West): Best for Winter Skiers & Frey Hikers
During the July-to-September winter season, staying right in Villa Catedral at the foot of Cerro Catedral lets you walk straight to the Amancay gondola and the Refugio Frey trailhead.
