Dubrovnik 3-Day Itinerary
This plan is built around one rule: the Old Town in the early morning and the evening, somewhere else in the middle of the day. It assumes you're staying in or near the walls.
Day 1: The walls and the Old Town
At opening: The city walls, starting from the Ploče side. Two hours.
10.30am: Coffee and a pastry on Gundulić Square, then the Rector's Palace and the cathedral treasury.
1pm: Lunch away from Stradun, in one of the lanes towards the Old Port. Try black risotto.
3pm: Swim at Banje beach, or rest during the heat.
6pm: Fort Lovrijenac with your walls ticket, for the view back at the city in evening light.
Evening: A drink at a cliff bar through the southern walls, then the rest of our Old Town walk in the cool.
Day 2: Lokrum and Mount Srđ
9am: A sea kayak tour from below the walls, or a slow morning in the Franciscan cloister.
11am: Boat from the Old Port to Lokrum. Walk up to Fort Royal, swim off the rocks, and find the peacocks.
4pm: Back in town. War Photo Limited, if you have the energy.
Two hours before sunset: The cable car up Mount Srđ. Spend time in the museum in Fort Imperial, then watch the sun go down over the islands.
Evening: Dinner in Ploče or back in the Old Town.
Day 3: Your choice
Kotor: leave by 7am to beat the border queue, stop at Perast, and be back by evening. Bring your passport.
The Elaphiti islands: the morning ferry from Gruž to Lopud, a walk to Šunj beach, and fish for lunch.
A slow day: the Lapad promenade, a beach, and oysters in Ston in the afternoon if you have a car.
Details on all three are in our day trips guide. With a fourth day, do another of them.
