Getting to Izmir: Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) İZBAN Train, Havaş and Coaches

Taking the direct İZBAN suburban train from inside Izmir Airport to Alsancak and the Metro in 28 minutes.

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) lies 18 kilometres south of central Izmir in Gaziemir, boasting two spacious glass terminals (Domestic and International) linked by covered indoor skybridges directly to the airport's own railway station. Whether you are heading straight into downtown Izmir, west to Alaçatı / Çeşme, or south to Ephesus (Selçuk), you can step off your plane onto direct public transport.

1. From the Airport to Central Izmir: İZBAN Commuter Train (Best & Fastest, ~28 minutes)

Follow the "İZBAN / Train" signs from baggage claim along the covered bridge into Adnan Menderes Havalimanı Station. Northbound İZBAN commuter trains (towards Aliağa / Menemen) depart every 12 to 20 minutes throughout the day at night:

  • For Alsancak and the Kordon: stay on the İZBAN train for 28 minutes straight to Alsancak Station (where you can step outside onto the Konak Tram or walk 10 minutes to the seafront hotels).
  • For Konak, Kemeraltı and Çankaya: ride the İZBAN for 22 minutes to Hilal or Halkapınar interchange station and transfer seamlessly onto the Izmir Metro (M1 towards Fahrettin Altay) for 3 stops to Çankaya or Konak.
  • For Karşıyaka: stay on the same northbound İZBAN train past Halkapınar right into underground Karşıyaka Station (42 minutes total).
  • How to pay on İZBAN: tap a contactless Visa or Mastercard debit/credit card directly on the station turnstile (remembering to tap out on the exit reader at your destination station so the distance-based *"Artı Para"* refund is calculated), or buy a blue İzmirim Kart from the yellow ticket machines on the concourse.

2. Havaş Airport Coaches, ESHOT Buses (202/204) and Direct Çeşme Shuttles

  • Havaş Coaches (24/7 timed to flights): white Havaş coaches wait outside the Domestic and International exits, running directly to Alsancak (Cumhuriyet Meydanı / Efes Hotel) and Karşıyaka / Mavişehir in 35 to 45 minutes, as well as direct seasonal Havaş coaches straight down the highway from the airport to Alaçatı and Çeşme (60 minutes) and to Kuşadası / Söke.
  • 24-Hour Municipal ESHOT Buses (202 and 204): orange Bus 202 runs between the airport and Cumhuriyet Meydanı in Alsancak (including overnight hours when İZBAN pauses), while Bus 204 connects the airport with Bornova Metro and the main Intercity Bus Terminal (İzmir Otogar).
