Jaipur 3-Day Itinerary: Pink City Palaces, Hill Forts and Crafts
A logical three-day route splitting the walled Pink City, the northern Aravalli hill forts and craft quarters.
This three-day route groups Jaipur by geography so you spend your time inside palaces, stepwells and craft lanes rather than sitting in cross-town traffic. Before you set out, check our practical briefing on composite monument tickets and early-morning lighting.
Day 1: Hawa Mahal, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar & Pink City Bazaars
- Morning: arrive at Badi Chaupar right after sunrise when eastern sunlight makes the 953 sandstone windows of Hawa Mahal glow deep rose-pink; photograph the facade from a rooftop cafe across the street, then enter from the rear courtyard to explore the top-level breeze corridors.
- Late morning: walk five minutes into the City Palace to see Mubarak Mahal, the giant silver water urns of the Diwan-i-Khas and the four seasonal doorways (including the Peacock Gate) in Pitam Niwas Chowk.
- Midday: cross the lane into UNESCO-listed Jantar Mantar with an official guide to see how the giant stone sundials and zodiac instruments work, then pause for a clay-cup lassi and hot pyaaz kachori along MI Road.
- Afternoon: climb the Isarlat (Sargasuli) minaret above Tripolia Bazaar for a wide view over the walled grid, then stroll the terracotta arcades of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar for gemstones, block-printed quilts and mojari slippers.
- Evening: dine on dal baati churma or laal maas in a candlelit heritage haveli courtyard.
Day 2: Amber Fort, Panna Meena Stepwell, Jaigarh & Nahargarh Sunset
- Morning: head north to Amber Fort (Amer) at opening time; walk up through Suraj Pol and Ganesh Pol to admire the glittering glass mosaics of the Sheesh Mahal before tour groups arrive.
- Late morning: descend into old Amer village to photograph the symmetrical diagonal stairs of Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell, visit carved Jagat Shiromani Temple and watch woodblock textile demonstrations at the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing.
- Afternoon: drive up the ridge to military Jaigarh Fort to see the massive Jaivana cannon and fort ramparts, pausing to photograph floating Jal Mahal on Man Sagar Lake.
- Late afternoon and sunset: continue along the Aravalli crest to Nahargarh Fort, touring Madhavendra Bhawan before watching sunset over the entire city from the western ramparts.
Day 3: Patrika Gate, Gaitore Ki Chhatriyan, Albert Hall & Galtaji
- Morning: start at the hand-painted arches of Patrika Gate at Jawahar Circle, then visit the peaceful marble royal cenotaphs of Gaitore Ki Chhatriyan tucked at the foot of the Nahargarh hills.
- Afternoon: tour the Indo-Saracenic galleries of the Albert Hall Museum in Ram Niwas Garden and the natural spring pools of Galtaji Temple tucked into an eastern Aravalli cleft before catching your evening train or flight.
