Getting to Jaipur and Around by Train, Metro and Rickshaw
Express trains from New Delhi and Agra, airport transfers, the Pink Line Metro and app rickshaws.
Sitting roughly 270 kilometres south-west of New Delhi and 240 kilometres west of Agra, Jaipur is the best-connected city in Rajasthan. Fast morning and evening express trains make rail the most comfortable way to arrive across the Golden Triangle, while a clean metro line and ride-hailing apps simplify city hops.
Arriving by train at Jaipur Junction (JP) and Gandhinagar Jaipur
Indian Railways operates regular air-conditioned express trains linking Delhi, Agra, Jodhpur and Udaipur to Jaipur Junction (station code JP), conveniently located just west of Bani Park and MI Road. Note that several trains from Delhi also pause ten minutes earlier at Gandhinagar Jaipur (GADJ), which is handier if your hotel sits in the southern districts near Tonk Road or Jawahar Circle. The standout services from Delhi (New Delhi or Delhi Cantt stations) are the modern Vande Bharat Express and the classic Ajmer Shatabdi Express, both featuring reserved air-conditioned Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC) seating with meals included. Book tickets weeks ahead through the official IRCTC platform or authorised international booking partners, and check the official railway inquiry portal for current platform and departure details.
From Jaipur International Airport (JAI) to the city
Jaipur International Airport (JAI) lies in the southern suburb of Sanganer, about 10 to 13 kilometres from MI Road and the walled Pink City. Depending on traffic along Tonk Road, the drive takes 25 to 40 minutes:
- Prepaid taxis and app-hailed cabs (Uber and Ola): both operate pick-up zones outside the arrivals terminal and take you straight to your heritage hotel door without haggling.
- Hotel transfers: if you are staying inside the narrow lanes of the walled Pink City or a tucked-away haveli in Bani Park, arranging a hotel car pick-up ensures the driver knows the exact courtyard entrance.
Jaipur Metro Pink Line, auto-rickshaws and hiring a driver
Jaipur's modern Metro Line 1 (Pink Line) runs from Mansarovar in the south-west through Railway Station, Sindhi Camp and underground right beneath the walled city at Chandpole, Choti Chaupar and Badi Chaupar (steps from Hawa Mahal and City Palace). For door-to-door trips, book auto-rickshaws or cars through Uber or Ola so the route and fare are fixed on your phone. To visit the hilltop forts of Amer, Jaigarh and Nahargarh in a single loop, ask your hotel to arrange a private air-conditioned car and driver for a half or full day.
