Best Time to Visit Jaipur
Sunny winter days from November to February, spring festivals, scorching desert summers and monsoon greenery.
Because Jaipur sits on the eastern edge of the Thar Desert plain, its seasons swing sharply from crisp, sunlit winter mornings to fierce pre-monsoon heat. For comfortable days walking through open palace courtyards, climbing fort ramps and browsing outdoor bazaars, the prime window runs from late October through early March.
Cool Winter Season (November to February) is the most rewarding time to visit. Daytime highs settle around a pleasant 22°C to 26°C under clear blue skies with almost no rain, allowing you to explore Amber Fort and the open-air stone instruments of Jantar Mantar at midday without wilting. Once the sun drops behind the Aravalli hills, desert temperatures cool rapidly, dipping to 8°C to 11°C on December and January nights, when rooftop restaurants light charcoal braziers. January also brings the world-renowned Jaipur Literature Festival and the sky-filling Makar Sankranti Kite Festival (14 January), when the entire walled city climbs onto flat rooftops to fly paper kites; book heritage havelis well ahead for this period.
Shoulder Months (October and March) bring warm afternoons (30°C to 33°C) and mild evenings. October often coincides with Diwali, when the uniform terracotta arcades of Johari Bazaar, Tripolia Bazaar and MI Road are draped in elaborate golden light displays that make Jaipur famous across India. March sees the spring festival of Holi and the colourful Gangaur procession dedicated to Goddess Gauri emerging from the City Palace gates.
Hot Dry Summer (April to June) is intense across Rajasthan. Daytime temperatures regularly climb from 38°C in April to over 41°C in May and early June, with hot dry winds blowing across the plains. If you travel in these months, restrict outdoor sightseeing to the first three hours after dawn and the last hour before sunset, resting in air-conditioned museums or courtyard pools at midday.
Monsoon Season (July to September) lowers temperatures to around 33°C to 34°C and brings short, dramatic bursts of rain that wash the dust off the pink sandstone and turn the normally dry brown Aravalli ridges around Nahargarh and Jaigarh a lush emerald green. Check what to wear in Jaipur for each season.
