What to Eat & Drink in Jasper: Bear's Paw Bakery, Elk & Bison, Trout & Jasper Brewing Co.
Tasting Jasper's mountain comfort food, from warm Bear's Paw berry scones and smoked trout to Canada's first national-park craft brewery.
All of Jasper's cafés, bakeries and restaurants are concentrated along two walkable streets right opposite the train station: Connaught Drive and Patricia Street. Before heading out for a full day on the Maligne Lake Road or the Icefields Parkway (where dining options are limited and expensive), stock up in town and return in the evening for hearty Canadian Rockies game and craft beer.
Five Essential Jasper Eats, Bakeries & Brewpubs
- Bear's Paw Bakery (4 Pyramid Lake Rd, Corner of Connaught Drive): the undisputed morning institution of Jasper. Arrive early in the morning before the hiking rush to grab their world-famous warm Raspberry & White-Chocolate Scone (or Blueberry Cream-Cheese scone), a gooey sticky cinnamon bun, a slice of Alberta Saskatoon Berry Pie, and packed trail sandwiches for your day pack.
- Jasper Brewing Company (624 Connaught Drive, Canada's First National Park Brewery): founded in 2005 by three local childhood friends who worked to open the very first craft brewery inside a Canadian National Park. Order a tasting paddle featuring their signature Crisp Pils, Babe's Blueberry Vanilla Ale (with fresh blueberries floating in the glass) and 6060 Stout alongside Alberta Elk Meatloaf wrapped in smoked bacon or crispy Korean-style cauliflower.
- Syrahs of Jasper, Evil Dave's Grill & The Raven Bistro (On Patricia Street): for an intimate candlelit dinner of chargrilled Alberta Bison Tenderloin, Elk Short Ribs, Boar Tenderloin or Wild BC Salmon paired with Okanagan wines, book a table on Patricia Street at Syrahs of Jasper, globally inspired Evil Dave's Grill (try the Cowboy Sushi beef tenderloin rolls), or Mediterranean-fusion The Raven Bistro.
- Famoso / Lou Lou's Pizza & Patricia Street Deli: for the best trail picnic lunch in Jasper, duck into tiny Patricia Street Deli (610 Patricia St) for custom baguette sandwiches piled high with Montreal smoked meat, brie and cranberry sauce.
- Lakeside Dining on the Emerald Terrace at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge (Or Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen): you do not have to be a hotel guest to drive 10 minutes east to Lac Beauvert and order lunch or a sunset cocktail on the outdoor Emerald Lounge Patio overlooking the turquoise lake and Mount Edith Cavell.
