Getting Around the Bodrum Peninsula: Dolmuş Minibuses, Kentkart and Taxis
How to ride Bodrum's white dolmuş minibuses to every bay on the peninsula using a contactless bank card.
You do not need a rental car to explore the beaches and villages of the Bodrum Peninsula. A well-organized network of white-and-blue municipal minibuses, universally known as the dolmuş, radiates outward from the centre of Bodrum Town to every single bay on the peninsula from early in the morning in the morning until midnight (and before dawn or before dawn on summer peak routes).
Where to Catch the Dolmuş in Bodrum Town
Although long-distance intercity coaches now use the new Torba terminal outside town, the historic Old Bus Station (Eski Otogar / Bodrum Merkez Garajı) on Cevat Şakir Caddesi, just 500 metres inland from the Old Bazaar and Castle, remains the central hub for all peninsula dolmuş minibuses. Every minibus has a clear digital or printed sign in the front windscreen showing its destination bay:
- Bodrum, Gümbet, Bitez (Every 10 to 15 minutes, ~15 to 20 mins): drops you right behind the pedestrian beach promenade of Bitez.
- Bodrum, Ortakent / Yahşi, Camel Beach (Every 15 to 20 minutes, ~25 mins): make sure the sign specifies Ortakent Yalısı / Yahşi (the beach) rather than just the inland highway junction.
- Bodrum, Gümüşlük (Every 20 to 30 minutes, ~40 to 45 mins): runs all the way to the western harbour right behind Rabbit Island.
- Bodrum, Yalıkavak (Every 15 to 20 minutes, ~30 to 35 mins): crosses the central hills past the windmills down into Yalıkavak centre and Marina.
- Bodrum, Torba, Göltürkbükü (Every 15 to 20 minutes, ~15 to 30 mins): serves the pine-lined northern bays.
How to Pay: Contactless Visa/Mastercard or Muğla Kentkart
Cash is no longer used on Muğla municipal buses and white dolmuş minibuses. Simply tap any contactless Visa or Mastercard debit/credit card (or Apple Pay / Google Pay) directly on the electronic validator beside the driver when boarding. (If you plan to take dozens of bus rides across Muğla province, including Marmaris, Fethiye and Datça, you can also buy a rechargeable Muğla Kentkart at the kiosk inside the bus station for slightly lower local fares).
