Where to Stay in Bodrum: Comparing Bodrum Town and the 6 Best Bays
Choosing the right bay on the Bodrum Peninsula for your travel style, from walkable Kumbahçe to quiet Bitez.
Choosing where to stay in Bodrum is the single most important decision of your trip. Because each bay on the peninsula has a completely different crowd, beach type and price level, match your base to how you want to spend your mornings and evenings.
1. Bodrum Town: Kumbahçe, Çarşı and Marina (Best for First-Timers, Walkability & Boat Trips)
If you are staying 3 or 4 nights, do not have a rental car, and want to combine history, daily gulet boat trips, a day trip to Kos and lively evening dining, stay right in Bodrum Town:
- Kumbahçe & İçmeler (Eastern Bay): the most scenic side of town, where boutique hotels and pensions sit along a pebble beach looking directly across the water at the floodlit towers of Bodrum Castle.
- Marina & Neyzen Tevfik (Western Bay): flatter, palm-lined streets with refined boutique hotels, garden courtyards and immediate access to the Mausoleum and yacht piers.
2. Bitez and Ortakent, Yahşi (Best for Families, Sandy/Shallow Swimming & Mid-Range Value)
Fifteen to twenty minutes west of town by dolmuş. Stay in Bitez for low-rise garden hotels set among tangerine orchards along a car-free, shallow sandy bay where children can wade safely, or next door in Ortakent (Yahşi) for a 2.5-kilometre Blue-Flag beach and relaxed seaside bistros.
3. Gümüşlük (Best for Couples, Bohemian Sunsets & Quiet Charm)
Forty minutes west at the sunset tip of the peninsula. Small, artistic stone guesthouses and hillside boutique hotels overlooking Rabbit Island and the lantern-lit waterfront fish restaurants.
4. Yalıkavak (Best for Luxury Resorts, Superyachts & Breezy Hills)
Thirty minutes north-west; five-star design resorts and hillside pool villas around Yalıkavak Marina, alongside quieter boutique hotels in Tilkicik Bay.
5. Torba and Göltürkbükü (Best for Pine-Forest Calm & Wooden Jetties)
Stay in Torba (only 10 minutes north of Bodrum Town) for peaceful, pine-backed five-star resort bays with instant access to downtown, or in Göltürkbükü for upscale wooden beach decks.
6. What About Gümbet? (Know Before You Book)
One bay west of Bodrum Town, Gümbet has a curving sandy beach and lower package-hotel rates, but its central bar street is loud before dawn with neon clubs; unless you are looking for late-night budget party bars, sleep in Kumbahçe or Bitez instead.
