Getting Around Bursa: BursaRay Metro, Trams T1/T2/T3 and BursaKart

Navigating Bursa's two east-west Metro lines, the Terminal Tram T2 and Nostalgic Tram T3 with a bank card.

Because historic Bursa runs along a straight west-to-east axis at the foot of Mount Uludağ, its public transport network (operated by municipal transit authority Burulaş) is remarkably simple to use. Two intersecting light-rail metro lines (BursaRay Line 1 and Line 2), three tram lines (T1, T2 and T3) and a fleet of yellow/green city buses connect every monument from Mudanya ferry port to Cumalıkızık village.

How to Pay: Contactless Visa/Mastercard vs BursaKart

  • Tap Your Own Contactless Bank Card (Simplest for visitors): you do not need to buy a local smartcard for short stays. Every turnstile at BursaRay metro stations, Tram T1/T2/T3 platforms and onboard yellow city buses (including the F3 bus from Mudanya BUDO pier and Bus 38 from the Bus Terminal) accepts contactless Visa and Mastercard debit/credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay directly.
  • BursaKart: if you are staying 4+ days or travelling with a family, yellow ticket kiosks at major metro stations sell rechargeable BursaKart cards or single/two-ride QR paper tickets.

The 4 Transit Lines You Will Use in Bursa

  1. BursaRay Metro Line 1 (Emek to Arabayatağı) & Line 2 (Üniversite to Kestel): both lines share the exact same central underground tunnel through downtown Bursa. Your two key central stations for the historic core are Osmangazi (Şehreküstü), which exits right beside the Covered Bazaar, Ulu Cami and Koza Han, and Gökdere (for the Irgandı Bridge and walking up to the Green Mosque). Ride Line 1 north to Emek for buses to Mudanya Ferry Port, Line 2 east to Cumalıkızık, Değirmenönü for Cumalıkızık Village, and Line 2 west to Üniversite for Bus 5/G to Gölyazı.
  2. Tram T2 (Kent Meydanı to Terminal): links the main Intercity Bus Terminal (Otogar) straight down Istanbul Caddesi to Kent Meydanı (5 minutes' walk from Osmangazi Metro and 12 minutes from Ulu Cami).
  3. Tram T1 (İpekböceği / "Silkworm" Circular Loop): loops from Kent Meydanı up past Heykel/Ulu Cami, Tophane (Timurtaşpaşa) and Kültürpark.
  4. Nostalgic Tram T3 (Zafer Plaza to Çancılar): vintage 1950s trams gliding along car-free Cumhuriyet Caddesi through the bazaar to Gökdere.
