3 Days in Çanakkale: Gallipoli Battlefields, Ancient Troy, Bozcaada and Assos

This three-day itinerary uses central Çanakkale as a hub on Days 1 and 2 so you cover the European Gallipoli shore and Asian Troy without packing and unpacking, before spending Day 3 on the vineyard island of Bozcaada or down at the clifftop temple of Assos. Day 1: Çanakkale Harbour, Nusret Minelayer & The Gallipoli Peninsula

• Morning: start on the Asian shore at Çimenlik Castle and the Naval Museum to step aboard the full-scale replica of the 1915 Nusret Minelayer and tour Sultan Mehmed II's 1462 keep, then walk five minutes through 1890 Aynalı Çarşı to the 1897 Clock Tower.
• Midday: board the GESTAŞ ferry across the Dardanelles to Kilitbahir and Eceabat for a comprehensive half-day tour (by car or guided battlefield van) of the Gallipoli Historical National Park: inspect clover-shaped Kilitbahir Fortress and Namazgah Bastion, stand below the soaring Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial at Cape Helles, and drive up the western ridge to Anzac Cove, Lone Pine, the 57th Regiment Memorial and Conkbayırı (Chunuk Bair).
• Evening: sail back to Çanakkale Pier at sunset, photograph the Hollywood Trojan Horse on the Kordon, and dine on vine-leaf grilled Dardanelles sardines and warm oven-baked peynir helvası.

Day 2: UNESCO Ancient Troy, The Troy Museum & Alexandria Troas (or Assos Sunset)

• Morning: take the morning Ç11K minibus or drive 30 minutes south to Ancient Troy (Troia); spend 90 minutes walking the nine stacked Bronze Age and Roman settlement layers before the midday sun gets high.
• Midday: spend two full hours inside the air-conditioned Corten-steel cube of the Troy Museum admiring the Polyxena Sarcophagus and the Bronze Age gold of Troy, followed by a village lunch in Tevfikiye.
• Afternoon Option A (Drive South to Assos): continue 50 minutes south via Alexandria Troas and the Pink Lake of Dalyan to climb to the 530 BC Temple of Athena at Assos (Behramkale) for sunset over Lesbos and dinner in the Antique Harbour.
• Afternoon Option B (Relaxed City Afternoon): return to Çanakkale to visit the free Ceramic Museum, stroll the marina and relax at the Yalı Hanı courtyard.

Day 3: Full Day on Bozcaada Island (Castle, Greek Quarter, Ayazma & Polente Sunset)

• Morning: catch the morning GESTAŞ ferry from Geyikli Pier for the 30-minute crossing to Bozcaada Island. Tour Bozcaada Castle, wander the cobbled Greek Quarter (picking up almond cookies and tomato jam), swim in the turquoise waters of Ayazma Beach, taste local Kuntra and Çavuş wines, and watch the sun sink into the Aegean at Polente Windmills before the evening ferry back.
