Getting to Copenhagen from Kastrup Airport and by International Train
13-minute airport transfers by Metro or train into central Copenhagen and arriving at København H.
Few European capitals have an airport connection as fast and seamless as Copenhagen. Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (CPH) sits on the coast of Amager island only eight kilometres south-east of the historic centre, and both the underground railway station and the elevated Metro station are built directly into the end of Terminal 3 (where all international arrivals exit after baggage claim).
Metro Line M2 versus the Mainline Train from the Airport
Choosing between the Metro and the mainline train depends purely on where your hotel is located, as both require the exact same 3-zone public transport ticket and take just 13 to 15 minutes:
- Take Metro Line M2 (escalator up at the end of Terminal 3): if you are staying in Christianshavn (11 minutes), Kongens Nytorv / Nyhavn (13 minutes), Nørreport for the Latin Quarter and Torvehallerne (15 minutes), or Frederiksberg (19 minutes). At Kongens Nytorv you can also step across the platform onto the M3/M4 lines for Østerbro and Nørrebro. Driverless trains run 24 hours a day, every 4 to 6 minutes by day and every 15 to 20 minutes overnight.
- Take the DSB / Öresundståg Train (Platform 2 downstairs in Terminal 3): if you are staying near København H (Copenhagen Central Station), Tivoli Gardens or Vesterbro. Trains depart every 10 to 15 minutes from Track 2 (note: Track 1 goes in the opposite direction across the bridge to Malmö in Sweden) and reach København H in 13 minutes, continuing to Nørreport and Østerport.
- Taxis: licensed metered electric taxis wait immediately outside Terminal 3; they take contactless cards and reach the centre in 20 minutes, though they cost roughly ten times the rail fare.
Arriving by international train at København H
Brick-vaulted København H (Central Station) sits right beside Tivoli Gardens and Vesterbro, linked into the Metro network by its underground M3/M4 station. Direct high-speed SJ X2000 and Snälltåget trains arrive here from Stockholm (around 5 hours 15 minutes), Öresundståg commuter trains cross from Malmö and Gothenburg every 15 to 20 minutes, and DSB / Deutsche Bahn EuroCity trains connect direct from Hamburg.
