Month-by-month weather guide to Córdoba using official 1991-2020 SMN climate normals: compare October-November jacaranda blooms, sunny dry winter hiking, and summer folklore festivals.

Set at 390 metres in the lee of the Sierras Chicas, Córdoba enjoys a temperate pampean climate with dry winters and warm summers (Köppen Cwa), averaging more than 2,500 hours of sunshine a year. According to official 1991 to 2020 SMN Argentina normals at the Córdoba Observatorio station, nearly eighty-five per cent of the city's 783 mm of annual rainfall falls between October and March, leaving late autumn, winter, and early spring remarkably crisp and dry.

September to November (Spring) & March to May (Autumn): Best Overall Weather

  • Mild 20°C to 29°C Days & Purple Jacaranda Canopies: Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) deliver the most comfortable temperatures for combining urban walking tours in the Manzana Jesuítica and Nueva Córdoba with hikes in the Sierras. In October and November (average highs 26°C to 29°C, lows 13°C to 16°C), purple jacarandas and golden-flowered tipuana trees burst into bloom along Arroyo La Cañada and Parque Sarmiento, while October also brings the famous Fiesta Nacional de la Cerveza in Villa General Belgrano. In April and May (highs 20°C to 24°C, only 3 to 5 rain days a month), the deciduous oaks, birches, and liquidambars of La Cumbrecita turn brilliant red and gold.

June to August: Sunny, Bone-Dry Winter (Best for High-Plateau Condor Hikes & Estancias)

  • Only 2 Rain Days per Month & Blue Skies: Winter in Córdoba is dry and bright: June, July, and August record an average of just 8 to 10 mm of rain (2 rain days per month), with pleasant afternoon highs of 18°C to 21°C under clear skies and crisp nights of 5°C to 7°C (occasionally dropping below freezing on the 2,100-metre plateau of Quebrada del Condorito). Because university classes are in full swing (apart from the two-week July winter break), the cafés and peñas of Nueva Córdoba and Güemes are lively every evening.

December to February: Warm Summer River Beaches & Major Folklore Festivals

Summer brings warm afternoons (average highs 29°C to 31°C) punctuated by refreshing late-afternoon convective showers (8 to 9 rain days per month). While many university students return home in January, the mountain valleys come alive as families swim in the granite river pools (balnearios) of Mina Clavero and Calamuchita and gather for Argentina's two biggest traditional music events: the Festival Nacional de Doma y Folklore in Jesús María (early January) and the Festival Nacional de Folklore in Cosquín (late January).
