Where to Stay in Córdoba, Argentina: Nueva Córdoba, Barrio Güemes & Historic Centre
Compare the best areas to stay in Córdoba, Argentina: leafy Nueva Córdoba near Paseo del Buen Pastor, bohemian Barrio Güemes along La Cañada, the colonial Plaza San Martín, or Sierra lodges.
Because central Córdoba is compact and walkable, its three core visitor neighbourhoods sit within a fifteen-to-twenty-minute stroll of one another along the axis of Calle Obispo Trejo and the stone canal of Arroyo La Cañada. Choosing the right base comes down to whether you prefer leafy Beaux-Arts boulevards, bohemian evening courtyards, or immediate proximity to colonial monuments.

1. Nueva Córdoba (Around Paseo del Buen Pastor & Av. Hipólito Yrigoyen): Best First-Time Base
Stretching uphill from Bulevar San Juan toward Plaza España and Parque Sarmiento, Nueva Córdoba is the most popular and polished neighbourhood for visitors:
- Why Stay Here: You are steps from the dancing fountains of Paseo del Buen Pastor, the polychrome Iglesia de los Capuchinos, and the museums around Palacio Ferreyra, yet only four blocks south of the UNESCO Manzana Jesuítica and ten minutes on foot from the T1/T2 bus terminals. Wide sidewalks shaded by jacarandas and tipuanas make daytime and evening strolling safe and lively.

2. Barrio Güemes & Arroyo La Cañada: Best for Bohemian Dining, Design Hotels & Nightlife
Immediately west of Nueva Córdoba across Avenida Vélez Sársfield and straddling the stone embankments of Arroyo La Cañada, Barrio Güemes has transformed its early-20th-century brick tenements and courtyards into boutique design hotels, speciality coffee roasters, antique arcades, and rooftop cocktail bars around Calle Belgrano, Achával Rodríguez, and Fructuoso Rivera.
3. Centro Histórico (Around Plaza San Martín & Calle Caseros): Best for Colonial History
Staying within two or three blocks of Plaza San Martín or along tree-lined Calle Caseros (between the Jesuit Block and the Neo-Classical Palace of Justice) places you right beside the Cathedral, Cabildo, and 17th-century university cloisters; note that the commercial pedestrian streets are busy on weekdays and much quieter after 21:00 and on Sundays.
4. Country Estancias & Sierra Mountain Villages (Alta Gracia, La Cumbrecita & La Cumbre)
If you have four or more days, pair two nights in the city with one or two nights in a timber chalet in Villa General Belgrano or pedestrian-only La Cumbrecita, or in an English-style stone country house in La Cumbre in the Punilla Valley.
