May to September: The Ideal Autumn, Winter, and Early Spring Window

For walking the nineteenth-century plazas of the Microcentro, visiting the outdoor pottery kilns of Areguá, and birdwatching in the Jardín Botánico, the cooler months from May to September are the most pleasant time to visit Asunción. Afternoon highs average a comfortable 24.9°C in May, 23.5°C in June, and 21.9°C in July (the coolest month of the year), before warming to 26.2°C in August and 27.9°C in September.

Winter nights average 14.2°C in June and 13.6°C in July, when southern surazo fronts bring crisp air. July and August are the driest months, averaging just 4 to 5 rain days.

Late July to September: The Season of Blooming Tajy (Lapacho) Trees

One of the finest visual reasons to time your trip for August or early September is the flowering of Paraguay's national tree, the tajy or lapacho (Handroanthus heptaphyllus and Handroanthus impetiginosus). Before their green leaves emerge at the end of winter, thousands of mature lapacho trees across the Palacio de los López gardens, Avenida Mariscal López, Plaza Uruguaya, and Villa Morra burst into canopies of deep magenta, rose pink, golden yellow, and rare white blossoms.

October to April: Hot Subtropical Summers and Evening Culture
