1. By High-Speed Ferry from Buenos Aires (75 Minutes Across the Río de la Plata)

  • Two Main Operators (Buquebus & Colonia Express): Multiple daily fast catamarans cross the river year-round:
    • Buquebus: Departs from its dedicated terminal at Avenida Antártida Argentina 821 (Dársena Norte, northern Puerto Madero) in Buenos Aires; fast catamarans (Atlantic III and Silvia Ana L) make the crossing in 1 hour and 15 minutes (while the conventional car-carrying ferry Eladia Isabel takes roughly 3 hours).
    • Colonia Express: Departs from Avenida Elvira Rawson de Dellepiane 155 (Dársena Sur, southern Puerto Madero / La Boca) and crosses to Colonia in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Side-by-Side Joint Immigration & Walking into Town: Arrive at the ferry terminal at least 60 to 90 minutes before departure. Both terminals operate integrated Argentine-Uruguayan border controls (migración unificada), meaning you receive your exit stamp and entry stamp at the same desk before boarding. Upon stepping off the gangway at the modern Terminal Fluvial de Colonia, you can walk straight up tree-lined Avenida General Flores to the Portón de Campo in 10 minutes (800 metres).

  • Direct Coaches from Montevideo Tres Cruces: Comfortable air-conditioned coaches operated by COT and Turil depart Montevideo's Terminal Tres Cruces every 45 to 60 minutes throughout the day, travelling west along four-lane dual-carriageway Ruta Nacional 1 (Brigadier General Manuel Oribe) via Nueva Helvecia to Colonia's Terminal de Ómnibus (right next door to the ferry port) in 2 hours and 30 minutes. If you are continuing to Punta del Este, seamless coach connections run directly from Colonia via Montevideo and Carrasco Airport (MVD).
