Getting to Konya: High-Speed Train (YHT) from Istanbul/Ankara and Konya Airport
Why the 250 km/h YHT High-Speed Train from Ankara and Istanbul is the fastest, smoothest way to reach Konya.
Thanks to Turkey's 250 km/h High-Speed Rail network (Yüksek Hızlı Tren, YHT), Konya is one of the easiest cities in Anatolia to reach without setting foot in an airport, while daily non-stop flights also land 18 kilometres from the Green Dome.
1. By YHT High-Speed Train (From Ankara, Istanbul & Eskişehir)
Operated by TCDD Taşımacılık (bookable online at ebilet.tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr or the TCDD e-Bilet smartphone app up to 15 days in advance), comfortable electric trains depart multiple times daily:
- From Ankara YHT Gar (1 hour 45 minutes): 6 to 8 direct trains daily glide across the steppe at 250 km/h, making Konya an effortless overnight or even same-day trip from the capital.
- From Istanbul (Söğütlüçeşme, Bostancı & Pendik via Eskişehir, 4 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes): 4 to 5 direct daily departures let you board on the Asian side of Istanbul in the morning and eat lunch in Konya's Bedesten by midday.
- Important: Konya Has Two YHT Stations (Selçuklu YHT Gar vs Konya Gar): southbound trains stop first at the modern Selçuklu YHT Station in the northern hotel/shopping district (connected directly to the Konya Tram Line 1 at Kunduracılar / Kule) before terminating 8 minutes later at historic Meram / Konya Gar (2.5 km west of Alaeddin Hill, linked to the centre by buses and a 7-minute taxi).
2. By Air: Konya Airport (KYA, 25 Minutes from the Centre)
Located 18 kilometres north-east of Alaeddin Hill along the Ankara highway, Konya Airport (KYA) receives frequent daily flights from Istanbul (both IST and SAW, 1 hour 15 minutes). White Havaş airport shuttle coaches wait outside arrivals for every landing flight, dropping passengers along the main northern tram avenue (at Otogar, Aydınlıkevler, KuleSite and Sille Kavşağı) before terminating in the historic centre at Alaeddin Hill / Zafer in 25 to 30 minutes (contactless card or lira cash accepted). Metered yellow airport taxis take 20 minutes to Karatay hotels.
3. Connecting To/From Cappadocia and Antalya by Coach
Direct coaches from Konya Intercity Bus Terminal (Otogar) (which has its own dedicated stop right on Tram Line 1) reach Cappadocia (Nevşehir / Göreme via Aksaray) in 3 hours and Antalya across the Taurus Mountains in 4 to 4.5 hours.
