Berlin 3-Day Itinerary
Three days grouped by district: the historic centre, the Wall and the east, then history and the west.
Berlin punishes zigzagging, so this plan groups each day by district and keeps transport short. Book the Reichstag dome before you travel, since registration is required and slots go quickly. Our getting around guide covers the tickets you will need, and the things to do list has more ideas if you have extra time.
Day 1: The historic centre
- Morning: Start at the Reichstag with your booked slot, then cross to the Brandenburg Gate and walk through the Holocaust Memorial beside it, with respect and no jokey photos.
- Afternoon: Walk the length of Unter den Linden to Museum Island. Pick one museum rather than several: the Neues Museum for Nefertiti, or the Alte Nationalgalerie for nineteenth-century painting. The Pergamonmuseum is closed for renovation until June 2027.
- Evening: Eat and wander around Hackescher Markt, a few minutes away on foot.
Day 2: The Wall and the east
- Morning: Go north to the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse, where the border strip is preserved. It is free and needs about two hours.
- Afternoon: Lunch and a stroll in Prenzlauer Berg, then travel south to the East Side Gallery, a stretch of the Wall covered in murals, and on to the Oberbaum Bridge.
- Evening: Eat in Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain; this is where the night begins.
Day 3: History and the west
- Morning: Visit the Topography of Terror, a serious documentation of Nazi institutions. Add the Jewish Museum if you want a longer, deeper morning, and skip Checkpoint Charlie beyond a glance.
- Afternoon: Take the train west to Charlottenburg Palace and its gardens.
- Evening: Finish on Kurfürstendamm with dinner and a look at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
