Best Time to Visit Guayaquil: Cool Dry Humboldt Season, July & October Festivities
Month-by-month weather guide to Guayaquil using official 1991-2020 INAMHI/WMO climate normals: compare the dry, breezy May-December season with the warm January-April beach season.
Although Guayaquil sits just two degrees south of the Equator at sea level, its climate is transformed for eight months of the year by the cold Humboldt Current sweeping up the Pacific coast from Peru and Chile. According to official 1991 to 2020 INAMHI and WMO climate normals at José Joaquín de Olmedo station, the year divides sharply into two seasons that locals paradoxically call verano (the cooler, rainless June-to-November months) and invierno (the hot, tropical rainy season from January to April).

May to December: The Cool, Breezy Dry Season (Verano), Best Overall Time to Visit
- Virtually Zero Rain (1 to 2 Rain Days/Month) & Refreshing Evening River Breezes: From June through November, rainfall in Guayaquil drops to just 5 to 18 mm per month (only 1 to 2 rain days a month). Daytime highs hover at a comfortable 28°C to 30°C under overcast morning clouds (garúa influence) that burn off into bright afternoons, while late-afternoon trade winds off the Río Guayas cool evenings down to 20°C to 21°C. This is the ideal window for walking Malecón 2000, climbing the 444 steps of Cerro Santa Ana, cycling on Isla Santay, and watching migrating humpback whales off Salinas between June and September.
- July & October Civic Festival Months (Fiestas Julianas & Fiestas Octubrinas): Visiting around 25 July (Founding of Guayaquil) or 9 October (Guayaquil Independence Day) lets you experience a month-long calendar of art fairs in Barrio Las Peñas, illuminated riverboat parades, gastronomic festivals (Raíces), and open-air concerts.

January to April: The Warm, Green Tropical Season (Invierno)
- Warm Ocean Swimming & Lush Forests (Highs 31°C to 32°C): Between January and April, the warm Panama current pushes south, raising daytime temperatures to 31°C to 32°C (lows 23°C to 24°C) and bringing heavy late-afternoon and evening tropical downpours (200 to 315 mm per month in February and March). While city sightseeing is best scheduled for the cooler morning hours (08:00 to 12:30) before afternoon showers, this is coastal Ecuador's peak beach season at Playas, Salinas, and Montañita, and the season when the tropical dry forest of Cerro Blanco turns deep emerald green.
Matching Guayaquil with Galápagos & Andean Seasons
May, June, October, and November offer the best combination of dry riverfront weather in Guayaquil, calm transitional seas in the Galápagos, and clear volcano views in Quito.
