Getting to Naxos: Walk-Off Ferry Port (From Athens, Paros & Santorini) and Airport (JNX)

Why arriving at Naxos Ferry Port, where you walk straight off the ramp into Chora, beats every other Cycladic port.

If you have ever experienced the chaotic cliff-switchback ferry port of Santorini or the out-of-town port of Mykonos, arriving in Naxos is a breath of fresh air: all ferries dock at a single pier that projects directly out of the walkable waterfront promenade of Naxos Town (Chora). You roll your suitcase off the ferry ramp, walk 150 metres down the jetty, and you are already standing at the KTEL bus station, car-rental offices and Chora hotels.

1. Arriving by Ferry (From Athens, Paros, Mykonos, Santorini & Crete)

Because Naxos is the main central stop on the Blue Star Ferries trunk line (Blue Star Delos and Blue Star Naxos) as well as all SeaJets, Golden Star and Fast Ferries catamarans, it has the best ferry connections in the Aegean:

  • From Athens (Piraeus or Rafina Port): year-round conventional Blue Star ferries from Piraeus take 5 hours 15 minutes (smooth, spacious and the best value), while high-speed catamarans from Piraeus or Rafina (30 mins from Athens Airport) take 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 45 minutes.
  • From Neighbouring Paros (Just 6 Miles West): ferries cross between Naxos and Paros (Parikia) 8 to 10 times a day in just 30 to 45 minutes .
  • From Mykonos (40 to 50 Minutes) & Santorini (1h 20m to 2 Hours): multiple morning and afternoon sailings make Naxos the ideal middle stop on an Athens → Mykonos → Naxos → Santorini → Crete route.

2. Arriving by Air at Naxos National Airport "Apollon" (JNX, Only 3 km from Chora)

Located beside the salt lagoons just 3 kilometres south of Naxos Town (and 2 km from Agios Prokopios beach), Naxos Airport (JNX) is served year-round by Olympic Air / Aegean and Sky Express with 5 to 7 daily 40-minute flights from Athens International Airport (ATH). Because the airport is only 5 minutes' drive from Chora or Agios Prokopios, a taxi costs ~standard fare, standard fare, or you can hop onto the passing KTEL Bus #1 right outside the airport gate .
