Getting Around Şanlıurfa: Bus 100 to Göbeklitepe, Contactless Cards and Taxis
Exact departure times and stop location for Municipal Bus 100 to Göbeklitepe, plus using contactless cards.
Inside central Şanlıurfa, you will rarely need motorized transport at all: the entire historical corridor from the Archaeology & Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum and Kızılkoyun Necropolis south through Balıklıgöl and Gümrük Hanı is a flat, pedestrian-friendly 15-minute walk. When heading out to Göbeklitepe, Harran or Karahantepe, here is how public buses and taxis work.
1. How to Pay on City Buses: Tap Your Contactless Bank Card
Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality's transit operator (BELSAN / UrfaKart) accepts contactless Visa and Mastercard debit/credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay directly on the electronic validator beside the driver on all municipal buses, including Bus 100 to Göbeklitepe and Bus 63 to Balıklıgöl.
2. Taking Municipal Bus 100 Directly to Göbeklitepe (Timetable & Stop)
To make UNESCO-listed Göbeklitepe accessible to independent travellers without a car, the municipality operates dedicated cultural route Bus 100 (Abide, Göbeklitepe):
- Where to board: at Abide Parkı / Abide Kavşağı (the main roundabout plaza at the northern end of Atatürk Bulvarı, right opposite the Nevali Hotel).
- Standard Daily Schedule: departs Abide at in the late morning, around midday and in the afternoon (taking 25 to 30 minutes right to the Göbeklitepe Visitor Center parking lot), and departs Göbeklitepe back to Abide at around midday, in the afternoon and in the early evening, giving you a comfortable 1 hour 45 minutes on site on the exact same bus.
3. Reaching Harran, Karahantepe and Halfeti (Minibus vs Half-Day Taxi)
- To Harran (44 km south) by Minibus: take city Bus 63 or a short taxi to the southern district minibus garage (Eyüpkent / Harran Kapı), where white Akçakale / Harran minibuses depart every 20 to 30 minutes.
- Smartest Option for Karahantepe + Bazda Caves + Soğmatar + Harran: because Karahantepe and the Bazda Caves sit on rural mountain roads not served by direct tourist buses, ask your hotel reception to arrange a trusted local metered/fixed-rate taxi driver for a 5-hour half-day loop, split between 2 to 4 travellers, it is fast, air-conditioned and lets you cover all four sites in a single afternoon.
