3 Days in Visby: Medieval Wall, Church Ruins and Fårö Itinerary
Follow a balanced 3-day Visby itinerary covering the 3.44 km medieval city wall, cathedral and church ruins, Gotlands Museum, Högklint, Lummelunda Cave, and Fårö.
Three full days on Gotland let you experience the entire UNESCO-listed circuit of Visby at an unhurried pace for two days before dedicating your third day to the limestone cliffs, karst caves, and sea stack fields outside the gates. Days 1 and 2 are designed purely on foot inside and along the city wall, while Day 3 uses a rental car or summer excursion bus north to Fårö and southwest to Högklint.

Day 1: Kruttornet, the 3.44 km City Wall, Cathedral and Klinten Sunset
Morning: Begin at the former medieval harbour basin of Almedalen and inspect Kruttornet (1158 to 1161), the oldest surviving secular building in the Nordic countries. Walk north through Kärleksporten into DBW's Botanical Garden (1855) to see the ivy-clad ruin of Sankt Olof, then follow Visby ringmur outside Snäckgärdsporten (1294) and along the dry moats of Nordergravar past Norderport (c. 1289) and Dalmanstornet to Österport (1286).
Afternoon: Re-enter the old town and visit Visby Sankta Maria Cathedral (consecrated 27 July 1225), then explore the Dominican ruin of Sankt Nicolai, octagonal Helge And, and Sankt Clemens. Pause for afternoon fika with a slice of saffranspannkaka and salmbär jam.
Evening: Climb Kyrktrappan to the Klinten cliff terrace for sunset over the rooftops and dine near Stora torget.

Day 2: Fornsalen, Spillings Hoard, Strandgatan, Stora Torget and Korsbetningen
Morning: Spend two hours at Gotlands Museum (Fornsalen) on Strandgatan, examining the 8th century Viking picture stones, the 67-kilogram Spillings Silver Hoard (14,295 coins unearthed in 1999), and the chainmail coifs from the 1361 Battle of Visby.
Afternoon: Stroll Strandgatan, Fiskargränd, and Donners plats to admire the 13th century step-gabled Gamla apoteket and the 1652 timber mansion Burmeisterska huset. Walk up to Stora torget to step inside Franciscan Sankta Karin ruin (1233) and the twin sister ruins of Drotten and Sankt Lars, then continue out through Söderport to the 14th century memorial cross at Korsbetningen.
Evening: Walk the seaside path along Strandpromenaden and Kallbadhuset (Kallis) before dinner on Södra Kyrkogatan.

Day 3: Lummelunda Cave, Fårö Sea Stacks and Högklint Cliffs
Morning: Drive or ride 13 kilometres north along Road 149 to Lummelunda Cave for a guided tour of its fossil-lined limestone caverns, then continue northeast to Fårösund (56 km from Visby) and take the free 6-minute car ferry to Fårö.
Afternoon: Follow Fårö's western shore past the arched sea stack at Gamle Hamn, the 3.5-kilometre sea stack field of Digerhuvud, and the tall monoliths of Langhammars, then stop at Sudersand beach, the 1847 Fårö Lighthouse, and Ingmar Bergman's grave at Fårö Church.
Evening: Return past Visby to Kneippbyn's Villa Villekulla and the 48-metre cliff of Högklint for a final sunset view back toward the walled city.
