Coastal Walks, Högklint Sea Cliffs and Kneippbyn's Villa Villekulla
Walk or cycle from Visby's Strandpromenaden to the 48-metre limestone cliff of Högklint and visit the original Pippi Longstocking house at Kneippbyn.
Stepping outside the coastal gates of Visby ringmur opens onto a limestone shoreline shaped by ancient Silurian reefs and Baltic waves. Within a 7-kilometre ride north or south of the harbour, paved seaside promenades and pine-forested cliff trails link bathing piers, nature reserves, and one of Sweden's most famous film landmarks.

Strandpromenaden, Kallis and Galgberget
Beginning beside Almedalen and the 1914 wooden bathhouse pier at Kallbadhuset (Kallis), Strandpromenaden runs for 5 kilometres north along the Baltic shore to Snäck. The flat coastal path passes pebble coves, sunset benches, and the seaside stretch of the medieval wall before climbing option trails to Galgberget Nature Reserve north of Norderport. Atop the limestone plateau of Galgberget stand the three medieval stone pillars of Visby's civic gallows, in use until the 1840s and commanding a wide panorama over the Baltic and the northern towers.

Högklint Nature Reserve and the Getsvältan Cliff Ledge
Seven kilometres southwest of Visby in Västerhejde rises Högklint, one of Gotland's highest coastal precipices, dropping 48 metres straight into the Baltic Sea. Protected as a nature reserve covering 121 hectares, Högklint is an eroded Silurian coral reef rich in crinoid and brachiopod fossils. From the upper viewpoint, the entire silhouette of walled Visby and the three spires of Sankta Maria Cathedral appear across the bay. A wooden staircase descends from the clifftop into Getsvältan, a narrow natural rock ledge running halfway down the cliff face past shallow sea caves, while coastal trails continue south to the fishing huts and sandy cove of Fridhem.

Kneippbyn and the Original Villa Villekulla
Halfway between Visby and Högklint (about 3 kilometres south of the city wall along the coast cycleway) lies Kneippbyn, founded in 1907 by physician Karl Pettersson as a health resort following Sebastian Kneipp's water-cure principles. Today Kneippbyn is home to the original wooden house used as Villa Villekulla in director Olle Hellbom's 1969 to 1970 television and film adaptations of Astrid Lindgren's Pippi Longstocking, starring Inger Nilsson. Originally built around 1902 as an officers' administration building at the Visborgsslätt regiment just outside Visby, the turret-topped house was painted yellow, pink, and green for filming and moved on rollers 3 kilometres to Kneippbyn in December 1969. A dedicated asphalt bicycle and walking trail runs the entire way from Visby harbour past Kneippbyn to the Högklint parking area, making it easy to combine both sights in a single half-day coastal outing.
