Day 1: Taj Mahal at Sunrise, Agra Fort, and Kinari Bazaar
Your first day pairs Agra's two 1983 UNESCO World Heritage icons along the southern and western curve of the Yamuna River.
- 05:30 to 08:30: Sunrise at the Taj Mahal via the East Gate (1,100 INR Base + 200 INR Mausoleum Ticket as of November 2026). Walk or ride the battery golf cart from Shilpgram to the East Gate 30 to 40 minutes before sunrise. Carry only your passport, QR ticket, camera, and phone as explained in our CISF security guide. Step through the red sandstone Great Gate (Darwaza-i-Rauza) as the marble dome turns pale rose-pink in the pre-dawn glow and photograph the reflection pool and eastern Jawab. Afterwards, pull on your cloth shoe covers to inspect the parchin kari floral inlay inside Mumtaz Mahal's octagonal chamber before the 08:30 tour groups arrive.
- 08:45 to 09:45: Breakfast at Your Tajganj Hotel or a Bedai Stall. Return to your Taj East Gate hotel for a full hot breakfast, or sample Agra's signature morning plate of crispy lentil-stuffed bedai with spicy potato-pumpkin curry and saffron jalebi at Deviram Sweets.
- 10:00 to 12:30: Agra Fort via Amar Singh Gate (around 650 INR by card/QR as of November 2026). Ride the air-conditioned Agra Metro (20 INR) or an Uber/Ola cab 2.5 kilometres northwest to Agra Fort. Climb the brick elephant ramp inside the double ramparts to explore Akbar's red sandstone Jahangiri Mahal and the monolithic stone bath of the Hauz-i-Jahangiri. Next, step into Shah Jahan's white marble court to see the curved bangla roofs of the Khas Mahal and the inlaid Musamman Burj tower. Finish your fort circuit at the Diwan-i-Khas and the 40-pillared Diwan-i-Am.
- 16:00 to 19:30: Jama Masjid, Kinari Bazaar, and Chaat Gali. After a midday rest, visit the seventeenth-century Jama Masjid built in 1648 by Shah Jahan's daughter Princess Jahanara Begum opposite Agra Fort. Stroll the silver-trim and spice lanes of Kinari Bazaar and finish your evening with Mughlai kebabs and chaat from our Agra dining guide.

Day 2: Sikandra Deer Park, Baby Taj, Chini Ka Rauza, and Mehtab Bagh Sunset
Day 2 explores the architectural ancestors and riverfront companions of the Taj Mahal (hire a local 8-hour air-conditioned car through your hotel for around 1,800 to 2,400 INR as of November 2026).
- 08:00 to 10:00: Emperor Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra and Mariam's Tomb (around 310 INR + 250 INR as of November 2026). Drive 10 kilometres northwest to Sikandra. Enter through the southern gate topped by four white marble minarets, watch spotted deer and blackbuck antelopes graze across the charbagh lawns, and climb to the fifth-floor marble cloister of Akbar's mausoleum. One kilometre further west, visit the sandstone garden tomb of Empress Mariam-uz-Zamani (Jodha Bai).
- 10:30 to 12:00: Dayalbagh Radhasoami Marble Temple and a Parchin Kari Workshop. Stop in northern Agra at the Soami Bagh Samadh at Dayalbagh, a white marble sanctuary where generations of stone carvers have been chiselling lifelike marble vines, jasmine buds, and pillars continuously since 1908. Afterwards, visit a family workshop in Gokulpura to see traditional parchin kari gemstone inlay.
- 15:00 to 16:30: Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah ("Baby Taj") and Chini Ka Rauza (around 310 INR as of November 2026). After lunch and a midday break, cross the Yamuna River to the East Bank. Spend an hour admiring the yellow jasper and agate inlay and carved marble jali screens of Nur Jahan's 1628 Baby Taj. Then drive along the riverbank to inspect the glazed blue-and-yellow tilework of the Chini Ka Rauza and Emperor Babur's 1528 riverside garden at Ram Bagh.
- 16:45 to 18:00: Sunset Over the Yamuna from Mehtab Bagh (around 300 INR as of November 2026). Finish at the moonlight gardens of Mehtab Bagh directly opposite the northern river wall of the Taj Mahal. From the riverbank pavilion, watch the setting sun turn the marble dome and its four minarets warm apricot-gold across the water.

Day 3: Fatehpur Sikri and the Keoladeo (Bharatpur) UNESCO Bird Sanctuary
On your third day, head west along National Highway 21. You can book a round-trip day car from Agra for around 2,800 to 3,600 INR as of November 2026, or travel with your luggage en route to Jaipur.
- 07:30 to 11:00: Fatehpur Sikri Royal Complex and Buland Darwaza (around 610 INR as of November 2026). Arrive at the Gulistan parking complex of Fatehpur Sikri (37 km west of Agra) at 08:15 and ride the 20 INR CNG shuttle bus up the ridge to the Royal Palace Complex. Tour the Diwan-i-Am, the central lotus pillar of the Diwan-i-Khas, the Anup Talao pool, the five-storey Panch Mahal, Birbal's House, and Jodha Bai's Palace. Next, walk west into the courtyard of the Jama Masjid to see the white marble mother-of-pearl canopy of Salim Chishti's Tomb and the 54-metre Buland Darwaza.
- 12:00 to 16:30: Cycle-Rickshaw Birding in Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur (around 20 km west of Fatehpur Sikri). Cross the state border into Rajasthan to visit the 29-square-kilometre UNESCO World Heritage wetlands of Keoladeo National Park. Park entry costs around 600 to 650 INR for foreign visitors plus 200 to 300 INR per hour for a cycle-rickshaw as of November 2026. Its shaded wetland dykes shelter painted storks, sarus cranes, pythons, and sambar deer. Return to Agra Cantt for the 17:45 Gatimaan Express back to New Delhi or continue west to Jaipur.
Traveller tips
To keep your three days stress-free, book all six ASI monument QR tickets (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Baby Taj, Mehtab Bagh, Sikandra, and Fatehpur Sikri) online on asi.payumoney.com the night before Day 1. Save offline screenshots of each QR code in a dedicated album on your phone so you never wait at a ticket window. If you prefer wild rivers on Day 3, swap Bharatpur for the south-eastern loop to the National Chambal Sanctuary and Bateshwar (80 km south-east). Departing Agra at 06:30 lets you glide by boat past gharial crocodiles and Gangetic river dolphins on the Chambal River. On the drive back, walk the crescent Yamuna ghat of 101 seventeenth-century Shiva temples at Bateshwar. Budget roughly INR 4,200 to INR 4,800 per person (~USD 50 to USD 57 as of November 2026) across all three days for foreign ASI monument tickets. Carry INR 1,500 in small 20, 50, and 100 rupee notes for Gulistan shuttle buses, shoe attendants, and lime sodas. If you have an extra evening on Day 1 or Day 2, attend the 90-minute live musical drama Mohabbat the Taj at Kalakriti Cultural & Convention Centre on Fatehabad Road (tickets around INR 1,200 to INR 3,500 as of November 2026, featuring a giant illuminated marble replica of the Taj Mahal).
