Marina Bay Waterfront Walk: Step-Free Loop Around the Bay and Bridges
A loop around Marina Bay in nine stops, with the best time to walk it.
The promenade around Marina Bay is a loop of roughly three and a half kilometres, and it shows you the skyline without a single ticket. The path is flat, mostly paved and lined with benches and shade, and it passes most of the big names in the area. Walking it in one go takes about an hour and a half with stops, and the route works in either direction.
The route in nine stops

- Merlion Park. Begin with the statue, the skyline and the story. The Merlion Park guide covers the statue and its history.
- Esplanade theatres. Walk past the two spiky domes, which many people call the durian, and look for the outdoor stage on the waterfront.
- Jubilee Bridge and the Fullerton side. Cross the arch bridge for a view back at the Merlion and the old colonial buildings.
- Helix Bridge. Cross the double spiral and stop at a pod for the best view of the towers. See the Helix Bridge guide.
- ArtScience Museum. Look at the lotus shape from outside and step in if an exhibition appeals. Exhibition details appear in the ArtScience Museum guide.
- The hotel waterfront. Walk along the promenade in front of the three towers and the canal, and use the mall for a cool break.
- Bayfront Bridge and the gardens. Cross to the park, where the Supertrees and the domes begin. The Gardens by the Bay guide explains which domes require tickets.
- Barrage side. Continue along the water to the quieter southern shore if you want fewer people.
- Return by the Singapore Flyer. Finish on the far side near the wheel, where you can see the bay again from a new angle.
When to walk it
Early morning is the best time, with cooler air and almost no crowds, and runners and cyclists share the path. Late afternoon into evening gives the light on the towers and the show of the city turning on its lights, but it is busier. Midday is hot and exposed, so avoid it by planning around it. Because the promenade is open to the sky, a thunderstorm can arrive quickly, and the nearest shelter is usually a short run away at the mall or the museum.
Practical notes

Bring water, a hat and light clothes. There are public toilets and refreshment kiosks at several points, but food options are better in the mall and at the nearby hawker centres. Some sections of the Gardens by the Bay promenade have diversions for construction, so check the official notices before you set out. The route suits wheelchairs and strollers, and the only steps are on some of the bridges, which have ramps nearby.
Where to eat along the way
Food options cluster at three points. The Fullerton and Esplanade side has cafes and a waterfront food area, the mall near the hotel holds a large food court and restaurants, and the Gardens side has casual outlets. For a proper local meal, finish the loop by taking the MRT to a hawker centre rather than paying tourist-area prices. A bottle of water and a light snack in your bag are enough for the walk itself.
What to skip

You do not need to walk the entire loop if you are short of time. The northern half, from the Merlion to the Helix Bridge and the hotel, has the highest concentration of views. If it rains, skip the southern shore and take shelter in the mall at Marina Bay Sands. At night the entire route is lit and feels safe, with plenty of people about.
Combine the walk with a hawker dinner afterwards, or with a ride on the Singapore Flyer to see the route from above.
