Reaching Gyeongju is fast thanks to the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway (KTX and SRT) and the Gyeongbu Expressway. However, first-time visitors often get confused by a recent station name change and the 9-kilometre gap to the historic tomb district. In early 2023, following the permanent closure of the old slow-train station in downtown Gyeongju, the high-speed bullet train terminal formerly called Singyeongju Station was officially renamed Gyeongju Station (경주역). Below is every route, 2026 fare, and local bus connection you need to reach your hotel and the UNESCO sites smoothly. Combine this transit guide with our Gyeongju travel guide and 3-day itinerary.

Getting from Gyeongju KTX Station into the Historic Centre

When you step out of the main exit doors of Gyeongju KTX Station, the bus stops and taxi stand are arranged directly in front of the plaza on the right-hand side. Because city buses are timed to meet incoming KTX trains, you have three easy ways into town:

  • City Buses 50, 51, 60, 61, and 70 (To Hwangnidan-gil, Daereungwon & Express Bus Terminal). Board any of these frequent city buses at the station plaza for a 20-to-25-minute ride straight to the Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal. Daereungwon / Hwangnidan-gil (1,450 KRW when tapping a T-money card, or 1,500 KRW cash as of November 2026).
  • Express Seat Bus 700 (Direct to Bomun Lake & Bulguksa). To reach the Bomun Lake Resort Complex or Bulguksa Temple, board Bus 700 at the station plaza (1,650 KRW on T-money). Buses depart every 30 to 45 minutes, reaching Wolji Pond in 25 minutes, Bomun Lake in 40 minutes, and Bulguksa in 55 minutes.
  • Official Metered Taxi or Kakao T. An official taxi from Gyeongju KTX Station to a hanok guesthouse on Hwangnidan-gil takes 15 minutes and costs 14,000 to 17,000 KRW on the meter as of November 2026 (about 25,000 to 28,000 KRW to Bomun Lake hotels).

The Smart Busan Alternative: Intercity Bus from Busan Nopo Terminal

While the KTX from Busan Station takes only 30 minutes on the rails, remember that Gyeongju KTX Station sits 9 kilometres outside downtown. If you stay in Haeundae, Seomyeon, or Dongnae, take Busan Subway Line 1 to Nopo Station (Busan Central Bus Terminal). Boarding the Intercity Bus to Gyeongju there is often faster door-to-door. Buses depart every 15 to 20 minutes from 05:30 to 22:30 (6,700 KRW, 50 minutes) and drop you at the Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal in Noseo-dong, a flat 7-minute walk from Hwangnidan-gil and Daereungwon.

Direct Airport Limousine Bus from Gimhae International Airport (PUS)

If you fly internationally or from Jeju Island into Busan Gimhae International Airport (PUS), you do not need to go into downtown Busan at all. An intercity airport bus departs outside the arrival halls every 60 minutes from 07:20 to 21:50. It reaches the downtown Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal in 65 to 75 minutes (11,500 KRW as of November 2026).

Mastering Local Buses 10, 11, and 12 (The Golden Temple Loop)

Once inside Gyeongju, two circular city bus routes connect every major hotel zone with the UNESCO sites (always tap your T-money card when boarding through the front door AND tap again when exiting through the rear door so you receive free 30-minute bus-to-bus transfers):

  • Bus 10 and Bus 11. These twin loop buses run in opposite directions every 18 to 20 minutes. Bus 10 runs clockwise: Intercity Bus Terminal → Daereungwon / Cheomseongdae → Donggung & Wolji → Bomun Lake → Bulguksa Temple → Folk Craft Village → Gyeongju National Museum → Terminal. Bus 11 runs the exact same loop counter-clockwise (taking Bus 11 from downtown reaches Bulguksa slightly faster via the museum route).
  • Bus 12 (Bulguksa to Seokguram Grotto Shuttle). This shuttle departs from the bus stop at the bottom of the Bulguksa parking lot roughly once every hour (check the posted timetable at the Bulguksa tourist booth as soon as you arrive). It also winds 20 minutes up the mountain switchbacks to the Seokguram Grotto parking plaza.
